  1. Thanks guys Already emailed the SBM and the Head - doubt i will get a reply back till after the holidays now, I have also emailed our LEA DPO asking them for advice Another thing which i have just thought about was "how long were they watching CCTV footage for" whether they just sat there during watching outside my house for the entire duration of the day just waiting to see when the Amazon Driver came i dont know So I think i am going to go ahead with a SAR request in for the video footage, if they sat down and looked for the entire day period i.e. from like 8am to 6pm (6pm was the time the amazon driver came) watching every movement during this period then this is disturbing! Does anyone know if CCTV systems shows audit/access logs as to what clips and duration they accessed?
  2. Thanks both! Typically I work for LEA providing ICT Support services to schools and it just happened to be this particular School we provide Admin ICT support to (Luckily though i've not had to deal with them since i been working here! But sods law they ring up and usually it would be assigned to visit them onsite me because I live the closest!) But yeh putting that aside tempted to put an FOI request through to get access of the CCTV footage, really curious to what angle this camera is pointing to my house
  3. Yeh really annoyed me this has the really funny thing is as well few months ago someone broke into my car...police went over to school wanted to see CCTV footage to which the school replied "The camera doesn't point this way" yet all of a sudden they have CCTV footage of my picking up a delivery parcel from the amazon driver outside the door...and car was parked right outside my house! the fact that they used this footage to watch me take a parcel then have the audacity to say that i have taken their parcel is annoying!
  4. so... I live directly opposite a school Earlier this evening someone (Staff member i presume) from the school popped over in the evening asking if i can "Give us the parcel that was delivered yesterday addressed to the school to my house" I told her no such parcel arrived at our placed addressed to the school yesterday.. (i went inside just to double check incase someone at home may have picked it up) but this wasn't the case.. so then I told her we don't have it...she then goes on on a rant and starts to get loud and mildly aggressive saying "We have you on CCTV picking the parcel up at 6pm and you came out the door and picked it up" i said yes i did pop out yesterday at 6pm to collect a parcel a Parcel that was addressed to me and NOT THE SCHOOL, so I asked to see the CCTV footage in the school of what exactly they saw..(didnt get that far though as by the time i went to get changed some admin lady from the school popped over and i explained the situation that i dont have the schools parcel and the only parcel i picked up yesterday was one ADDRESSED to ME! and i even showed her the envelope it was a flat long one which could not fit the door so the postman knocked i came out and picked it up.....i asked them what was size of the parcel she goes a small box Then the original staff member had the cheek to tell the other staff member "Can you not zoom in" trying to make out i kept it!!! The other admin lady apologised in the end, i sent the business manager and head a complaint about what happened so will see what happens but my question is can CCTV be justified and used in the way they did - pointing outside my house and watching me pick up a Parcel and using that against me accusing me (which it felt like it big time) that i have taken their parcel! and the cheek for her to say "Can you not zoom in" !! apparently the postman told them it got delivered to my number which clearly wasnt the case Can schools justify the CCTV usage for this?
  5. Hi Guys Got Aruba Installed today at a school, first time ever using this system just wonder if anyone has any experince with it so we got a bunch of Ap-515 and switches and we also got a 10 year Aruba Central Subscription Got all the access points booted and setup and it is broadcasting the SSID which is all good, had to just do the config on one access points and plugged in the other APs and picked up all the settings automatically now the problem is we using SWGFL as an ISP and we are using a proxy to get thorugh to the internet, i have submitted a request through to them to whitelist a bunch of ips belonging to the switches and APs and allow unfiltered access to the internet so it can talk to Aruba central just waiting for them to get back to me however though got a question, whenever i try to make any changes to the virtual controller via the IP address say for example i decide to add the proxy for the APs or create a new SSID, it works then after a few mins or so it reverts back to the original setting? Mind you thought the only thing i have been trying to do is add the proxy via the virtual controller on one of the access points it works for a bit then aruba central sees the device then after a few mins or so loses everythign again any ideas whats causing this? Also also i tried to rename the Virtual controller name and again it works then reverts back?
  6. Yup thanks got it sorted in the end thanks! The school is using RM (SWGFL) as their ISP Has anyone had any issues with proxy or anything that they had to get opened up for the Aruba equipment to connect to the internet?
  7. First time we using Aruba central, deploying this on Monday as part of the CTC Project. Just wanted to know we are still waiting for our license keys to be processed not sure how long it will take but we are due to pop out early next week to make a start on the deployment. I've created a trial aruba central account and looks like its a 90 day evaluation trial version, does anyone know with this 90 day version that i should be able to do whatever i need to get the APs all configured and setup along with the switches or is there any other limitations with the trial version? Only thing i saw is that this version is only limited to a number of APs and Switches which is fine in our case but apart from that anyone knows if there is anything else we limited to doing? If its full version then should keep us going for a bit till the licenses get processed
  8. Got it sorted in the end! The problem was that one of the teachers decided to start messing about with stuff and found some old ancient knock off Hub stashed away in a cupboard and decided to start to connect multiple PCs to this hub causing loops!
  9. ....annoyingly still bit a miffed that the DFE were not willing to fund replacement of Cat5e cabling with Cat6.......despite them saying that the equipment must be Wifi 6 Does in a way kinda defeats the purpose I've had a few of our schools as a result of this having to get the Cabling replacement from their own pocket!
  10. Thanks! Will give that a go tomorrow Just one of these schools we have inherited unfortunately from a previous provider so just trying to get our head around things Yup everything is as flat single network !
  11. Hey thanks for your reply Here is a topology of how its basically set up currently So basically when we disconnect the SFP Module completely everything seems to be working fine Plug it back in to the unifi switch then we get all sorts with router not being able to ping, not internet access etc
  12. Quick Question School we support have 2 Data sites both on the same estate connected via Fibre to both buildings Have some broadcast loop somewhere Building 1 has 3 switches Unifi (Has SFP Port connected back to Fibre Panel which links the other building) Netgear 1 Netgear 2 so its daisy changed as below: Router link to Netgear 1 Netgear 1 to Netgear 2 Netgear 2 to Unifi If we plug the SFP into the Unfi Switch it takes down the entire network cant ping router and everything goes down including internet, disconnect the SFP and everything works fine Only thing i can think of possibly is a dodgy switch at Building 2 which also has a similar setup as above (Not had a chance to fully check out Building 2 today but hoping so tomorrow) Could this be the issue you think? or possibly something else?
  13. Not a faulty Switch or something? Had something similar few months ago at a school, ended up being a faulty POE Switch!
  14. Yup we went half Cisco for some schools half aruba for others Went for kit like this: Hewlett Packard Enterprise 2930M 40G 8 Smrt Rte PoE+ 1s Swch Managed Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000) (PoE) cost us around £2k for the switch Access points: Hewlett Packard Enterprise Aruba AP-515 around £300
  15. Yeh thats the same thing we got told, although our initial order was for MR56!
  16. Ahh thats interesting in this case What switches did you order if you don't mind me asking? We went for Cisco MS390-48 and AP MR56, orders placed in August and nothing has arrived yet for anything
  17. Has anyone here ordered Cisco kit as part of this scheme? Whats the delivery lead times been like? Apparently heard from somewhere that Cisco kit has been ring fenced for schools and that they can get hold of it quickly? not soo sure if this is the case has anyone ordered cisco meraki kit and if so have they had any lead times?
  18. Yup! and also they said to us that all works need to be done and completed by 15th Feb to be able to claim expenses back, if work can't be done by then then the schools can file a partial claim for this financial year and the rest for next extremely tight!
  19. DFE has sent out an email to all the schools today saying that all Quotes must be submitted to them to by Friday 12th November
  20. What Depth size cabinets did you order if you dont mind me asking? We have 2 schools both they have wall mounted cabinet and currently they are 500MM in Depth Once cisco switch we ordered is 22inches deep and the other for another school is 20inches deep! Our Cabler was saying a 600MM Cabinet is going to leave it quite tight!
  21. Yup we too went with Cisco equipment similar what you have suggested, DFE notified our schools back in May/June - schools being schools either deleted the initial email or took long to contact us about it, then we had the issue of arranging a site visit to the school which again was difficult to arrange with the schools, they wanted at during certain times. Then once we got quotes and everything back schools would then take ages to get the forms sent over to DFE for approval and purchase the orders (Just unfortunate the type of schools we deal with are like that) But we went with Cisco stuff initially and lead times are about 3 months - schools which got approved and their order processed back in July ETA for their equipment is around end of November and there are some schools who ordered even later than that and some school that have not even sent their form in yet DFE said cut off is end of feb they are not going to budge The schools we already got approved are using Cisco Stuff, we found another reseller who are providing Aruba stuff and they have these in stock and once approved they can normally dispatch it within a week or so, so we going to end up going down this route instead, plus some schools we looking to get quite a bit of cabling done such as digging up ground and running fibre between mobile class units and all sorts so rushing at the moment Did anyone else get caught out with forgetting to get new cabs fitted, few of our schools we completely overlooked this so we having to apply for additional funding from DFE to cover this as their initial bid was already approved
  22. Has anyone had any lead times for equipment? One of our suppliers have just got back to us saying upto 80 days once order gets through which is about 2.5 months or so and considering we now in Mid October if these time lines are anything to go by then looking at after Christmas for delivery then got the task of then trying to arrange with the school to get the work done, considering claims have to be submitted by Feb to the DFE! and schools are not the quickest to get things ordered and get paperwork done!
  23. So....we recently took over IT support for a local primary school over from another company, little did the school realise the looking after the phone system that was supplied by a 3rd party vendor was not included, so they had a power cut and since then the phone system has been down and they have no support or maintenance contract with the previous company and have asked us to take a initial look at it (Long story for another time)... They are running a PBX (Avaya IP 500V2) I am no entirely sure why the numbers are like that with top row showing 1-2 3-4 etc and bottom row showing 1 on top of 2 and 3 on top of 4 ??? Not familiar at all with these units The Way it is connected is as follows 1) A Phone cable going from the BT Open Reach Socket to Port 9?? on the switch (See Red X mark on the image) 2) Then there is another RJ45 Cable going from the Port above which i assume is port 9? (Blue X mark on the image) and this goes down to the floor in a box with a bunch of analogue cables 3) Then on the PBX control unit itself at the back of the box there is a cable that links back to the switches which is all fine 4) Bottom Row (Black X) there is a bunch of Phone cables connected to it see second image on the thread Does this seem like the correct setup does anyone know? Someone (Possibly from the school) have been disconnecting and reconnecting cables so have absolutely no idea what has been done and what goes where Thought i'd check here incase anyone has any knowledge as we have never dealt with phone system before Probably going to end up getting the school to have to pay the company half day call out charge to get things right Everything interally works fine switches/and software but seems to be issues making internal and external calls!
  24. We have over 9 schools confirmed for DFE project, one of them got approved end of July and its been 2 months and still the cisco kit has not been shipped out yet! Going to be real tight this!
  25. Yup those are the emails we got too, if in doubt i would give DFE a call just to confirm they are legit
