have you enabeld the TCP/IP configuration to enabled - without this the server wont accept remote connections Usually; start>Programs>MS SQL 2005>Configuration>SQL Server Configuration select SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration> protocols for Right click named pipes select enable do the same for TCP/IP restart the SQL Services see if that helps

@dhicks; it was, and as far as i know the personal ones can be used, but as a school is classed as a commercial building even the smaller ones require a license. It does seem that grants and funding are the way to go, we had one company in who wanted nearly £15,000 for the priviledge of setting up a school radio. Lets just say that the idea was soon put on the back burner surely to be forgotten at some later date...

Sounds Good, i would up the Dells to 1Gb RAM though Low power FM Transmitters wont work - sorry i'll rephrase it will work but you will have to pay OFCOM a ridiculous amount of money (and go through reams of paperwork) just to get licensed - even the low power ones, in enough quantity require a license. In terms of PCs the more HD Space the better - and the usual lots of RAM and a chunky CPU. I would go for XP Pro over win7 mainly due to the lower resource usage between the two. For streaming your man may be able to tell more, i know it can be quite intensive on RAM and processor E.G 25/30 simultaneous connections per 1Gb Ram (not including OS) as for bandwidth as long as you dont start streaming High Quality i.e. > 128Kbps (or even 96Kbps) Audio and you're not doing other network intensive jobs such as ghosting I doubt it would be a majore impact unless you're expecting 100's of simultaneous streams Have you considered getting the students to record their segments having the music Tech edit them into a 'show' or multi topic piece and then just making the files available for download from your VLE?? I've installed ESX on 9 servers and only seen this once - it was when there was a drive problem (HDD Failure) try without the raid setup... maybe?!? i have also heard somewhere about the VMware HCL - is your server /RAID array listed otherwise there can be issues with installs sorry i cant be of more help

1 would be for the actual radio playout system (the box that stores your music) the other would be a more beafy box that would provide your hosting (i presume) Most schools have a PRS/PPL License - I would speak to whoever would looks after that (our finance bod does ours) as for music... it is up to you to provide, the license gives you right to publicly broadcast the music only. Check your SQL config to make sure TCP/IP connections are allowed and also named pipes are enabled. was it a p2v conversion or was it a fresh build - the usual service packs etc i presume have been installed? Mark

You need to ensure that all the sophos application files (exes) are added to the application exception list in PCE console. you will also need to make sure that the policy central application files are added to the sophos exception list. we do have issues with IE Crashing but we put it down do it just being IE we have had issues with and without (mainly at the minute extremely slow responses from the server) try running IE without any addons both sophos and PCE have addons in PCE - disable them all then re-add one by one your culprit may be there. If there is anything else i can think of i will let you know. otherwise get in touch with Paul or Simon at forensic they are pretty good with handling any problems that arise HTH
