Groupcall Emerge - Excessive CPU usage on VMWare
meastaugh1 replied to meastaugh1's topic in MIS Systems
Sure, feel free. We are not a direct Emerge customer, but our VLE uses Emerge to write back data to the MIS. As a result, any communication I've had from Groupcall support has been through the VLE provider. It's my understanding that Groupcall believe we are the only school to use Emerge on VMWare (and have problems), so I thought it would useful to gauge whether other schools are experiencing problems and just not reporting them. -
I have Groupcall Emerge installed on a 2008R2 VM with 2 sockets/2 cores and 8GB RAM, running SIMS and SQL 2012 Express on ESXi 5.5. When Emerge is running it will loop between using 50% CPU across all 4 cores for approx 3 mins, then drop back to 0% for 1 minute. Left over time, I have seen Emerge's CPU usage go up to 90%. We are not currently writing any data via Emerge, so this is apparently just Emerge polling. Other services/apps (eg SQL) are running normally when Emerge is stopped and not consuming half or more of the CPU time. After several remote sessions, Groupcall have concluded that this is due to an incompatibility with VMWare. Is anyone running Emerge on VMWare VMs, if so do you experience this CPU usage issue? Thanks

[android] Hertfordshire Schools Proxy Apps not connecting
meastaugh1 replied to cooper's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Have you checked the web filtering? I've had issues with various Google apps and sign-in on Android devices not working because they need access to Google Plus, as well as a few more obscure addresses. Probably worth running a netsweeper report against an affected IP. In the past I've also had problems with apps and Play Store failing to connect, or downloading very slowly. However this problem only affected the transparent proxy service, not the main proxied network. This magically seem to fix itself, presumably as a result of a change Updata made to the network at some point. Perhaps it's worth trying the transparent proxy if you think that's the likely cause: http://hics.lea.herts.sch.uk/tech/?page_id=57 -

What's the format of your csv? Are the e-mail addresses of Exchange and Google the same or different? I vaguely recall getting the oauth message a couple of times, but it's been a while since I ran it. I think my issue may have been related to an error in the CSV. Is there anything in the error details when you click the help link next to the oauth error? Edit: When prompted for an exchange user, are you specifying a domain admin?

Yes, that will work.

24 hours is pretty optimistic. Some of our accounts took days to transfer. Thankfully it does transfer newest data first, so it should just be historical data that isn't there straight away.

The use of RealSmart for account provisioning and SSO shouldn't affect use of the GAMME tool. It works fairly reliably, though you should note the 1 message per second per user max transfer rate. The tool will allow you to process multiple users at once (25 by default), though you can increase this, and/or run GAMME on multiple computers and process them in separate batches. The admin guide had a helpful table that indicates what data the tool will ams won't handle. When we were using RealSmart, I recreated the domain groups in RealSmart and had them sync across, or created them directly in Google.

Was anything announced?

A very similar question was asked last week: http://www.edugeek.net/showthread.php?t=130187 The solution won't affect applications you can't identify by process (eg websites) and doesn't directly address the human behaviour problem as has already been stated.
