Windows Product Key label

We have just taken delivery of 100 NECs, and they have put the Win Product Key on top of the case,

 

One slight problem... kids might pull them off. What do other people do to stop this happening and would taking a photo be ok if the kids pull the stickers off as proof.

I always take them off now, and keep them in the safe!

We've never had much trouble to be honest, I'd have thought some would take the initiative to write down a key to use at home (seen as we use our VLK they'd have no problems) but they never seem to have done.

 

I think if you have all your paperwork in order then if the odd PC had no sticker you'd be fine.

Thats how i see it. You pay for the licence to use the software, not the specific serial. Hell if we all had to go round and edit the keys on every PC we've used RIS/WDS/ghost images on we'd never get anything done!

I think you'll find that if you buy a machine with an oem xp pro licence on and then use a vlk that you've acquired to reinstall you could well indeed be on the wrong end of the Microsoft stick.

No you can use your VLK media to re-install XP OEM I was told that was fine, just so long as I can prove that I own the XP Pro OEM I am fine.

 

As for those that remove the OEM stickers themselves before the kids do like mine do IE rip them to bit, how on earth do you get them off? They normally shatter and break for me, so please advise.

ive moved a few my self from machines that we have scrapped, you have to have real patience and take it really slowly. Where the labels have little slits in them start un-pealing them there too... buy yeah just take it really slowly.

Im told you need to use a heat gun to get them off easily in one piece ....

When we closed the old ICT suites that our school started out with and moved over to the new eLearning centre, i know of two people (students) that went round writing down all the codes on the RM machines. I've been told that none of the keys worked anyway (i think they must have been using corporate or home or something that the keys dont work on).

 

As for ironing...there's no such word. There's only TONNES of softner.

Anyway, you cannot really steam the new ones can you as they are entirly paper as its so you can feel the fibres and see them, so surely they get a bit soggy with steaming them? Maybe I will try on one of my machines, I have an iron in the office somewhere from reattaching some mellamine edging strip to the desks in the IT Centre...

I was concerned about this and I asked my system builder (HP Direct) if they could leave them off or stick them on the inside of the case.

HP looked into it and said that it is a legal requirement for OEM vendors to put the sticker in a visible place on the case.

In the end we got them to stick the underside of the case so at least students have to lift them up to see it is there

You will then need to peel off the old COA from your PC (even if it is in pieces) because it will need to be sent back to Microsoft before the replacement can be ordered. The replacement COA will then be sent back to the reseller/manufacturer or place of purchase, who will then stick it back on the chassis of your PC.

 

It also says that proof of license needs the invoice, EULA (if a hard copy was sent) and the COA (that's the sticker). So it's nice that Microsoft have made this as easy as possible for educational Establishments

When I build them I stick them on the rear or base so they are still visible but not as prone to children picking at them.
