I'd love to know (insert 4 lettered word) who at HP Compaq designed the casing for their 'Elite' all in one range. It's taken me almost 30 mins to get the rear panel back on! It's almost impossible to do it without 4 hands!

 

Where's some EduJD when you need it!

haha, glad it wasn't just me. My bro asked for some help with this at his place, and yeah, to say the least it isnt fun. The whole range of all in ones are awful!

Agree. RM ones are awful. Replacing simple things like the PSU take forever. I've given up with one of them.

Probably the same person who designed the 4310s and 4510s Probook laptops, 12 screws to replace a keyboard, 14 to get to the HDD, and dont get me started if you replace their "high quality" PSU cable (at least it isn't on the mono) or the the LCD panel.

Pmsl well at least they learnt for the 630's and 4530s and 4730s totally screw less access via one huge panel. I feel your pain

Sounds like there is a school for engineers to learn how to over engineer laptops.

 

I forget how many screws there are in the white MacBook, but every other one is different and to cap it off there are a pair that are redundant. I am told they were put there by Steve Jobs to make the design look right!

Dell Latitudes, they are nice and Easy to replace parts (well most of them) but hey ho, I bought all the new Hps with 3 years accidental damage so their problem for the next 3 years

Glad it's not just me then! What I don't get is the HP Compaq SFF (Small Form Factor) casing is brilliant - pull up the lever and you're in and it's all/mostly tooless.

 

Come on OEMs, sort it out!

Ah - but look on the bright side: if you ever go for a job where the "technical task" is replacing a HD / DVD Drive / Mobo you've seen the worst!

Very true, but when you're used to working with SFFs like me it was a bit of a shock to the system. In the meantime I'll be growing another pair of arms and hands until OEMs fix this! lol

I've got a couple of RM Ones that need new mainboards. That's gonna be fun ... Not!

Mainboards aren't too bad in an RM One.

 

It's things like PSU or optical drives that are the killer - anything that involves accessing the front compartment really!
