ETA: Qwerty72, do you have a link to the overview you mentioned? I've been trawling the SIMS documentation looking for something along these lines. Thanks.

The diagram I posted on 4 Feb does show the relationships between the modules.

I found the diagram attached when giving a talk to a year 12 ICT group. You may find it useful.

Ahh the power of the web. I posted that one on SupportNet - it was created by the lovely lady at my LA support sedcion. One of the greatest diagrams (puts on Jeremy Clarkson voice) ...In The World...

Hello ICT Lady and forum posters

I'm a new data manager too, nearly 4 weeks into the job now.

I've found this forum and Capita's own forum really good for gaining knowledge.

I am similar to you ICT lady, no previous SIMS or schools experience, but I am an experienced IT professional with an excellent database and application development background.

My first impressions are that the Assesment modules are very important and once you understand Aspects, Results Sets, Grade Sets and Results you are well on the way to becoming a SIMS guru !

I like the 'design reports' utilities as it is very intuative and needs very little training and empowers you to analyse the data for your SLT

Regards

Phil

I am looking for Data Manager Forums so will try and join the group set up, are people aware of any other good forums/email groups?

:welcome:

Just using EG is pretty good in itself, particularly the MIS forum. Lots of info there dating back a long way.

The group is also good.

Depending on your MIS, there may also be a localised usergroup. For SIMS we have a middle east one, and there is also a south-east asia one. There may be similar regional ones in the UK.

You should also join Capita's My Account if you're a SIMS user, as they are all data managers (pretty much) on there.

The DM group on here is good, especially as most people seem to be a couple of steps ahead of me so I can see what I am supposed to be doing and haven't got to yet!

There is a DM group on Facebook - set up by SISRA but not SISRa-specific. I can DM some further details if you would like?
