We decided to just use the Reading test mark

If your school is a member of SSAT you can join the Data Managers Network which is an extremely useful email group.

We had that error message and Capita dialled in to look at it. Turned out the SSM service needed to be restarted, it's been working fine since then.

We use SISRA here and since the new version was released last year it has improved massively, all our teachers use it and our SLT love it. It doesn't sync automatically with SIMS but it is a relatively quick job to get everything out of SIMS and uploaded.

I'm enrolled on that Future Learn course but not had a chance to get into yet.

I'm not the exams officer but we do sit in the same room. We've sent a large amount back for EAR2 this time and the vast majority have gone up with a couple of them tipping into the next grade boundary.

On the client it was in this folder C:\Program Files (x86)\SIMS\SIMS .net

I've got it now, I found a number of connect.ini files in different folders and finally found the one that worked. Thanks

Hi, I'm having the same problem. I've updated the connect.ini file on my c drive to point directly to the server but it is still saying I need to enter the server and database names. I've also tried running it on the SIMS server with no luck. Thanks

Thanks. It is on the spreadsheet titled GCSE DA ex Media/Film/TV Stds, does the ex mean it's excluded?

We have a number of students who took double award Media Studies last year but the results do not seem to be included in the RAISEOnline summary reports. It only counts the 29 students who took the single award. Does anyone know why this is? Thanks

I can confirm that's true. I received this email from the DfE last week: 2014 key stage 3 teacher assessment Following publication of the new national curriculum, the assessment arrangements for key stage 3 were disapplied from 2013. This means that in 2014 there will be no requirement for schools to report key stage 3 teacher assessment to the Department for Education (DfE) or to collect and submit data to the Standards and Testing Agency via the NCA tools website. There is also no requirement to report key stage 3 assessment to parents. The DfE sent a communication to schools and local authorities to confirm this change in October 2013.

If you want an exceptionally well built fantasy world which is totally different from most fantasy series then Steven Erickson is definitely worth a read. I loved China Mieville's Perdido Street Station and have just finished World War Z (which is very different from the film)

How long have you been working in IT? About 6 years (in a roundabout way) Is this your first, second, third, etc career? Third. Before this job I was an IT training adviser for Apprenticeships and the only person qualified in the company to be able to assess the technical NVQs. What other jobs / roles have you done previously? Mainly administration positions. How many interviews did it take to get your first job in IT? Quite a few, but I think this may be down to my unrelated career experiences. Have you ever felt that being female is a help or a hindrance to gaining a job in IT? I studied software engineering at university and I think it was a definite hindrance being female during my year in work for my course. The company took 6 of us and I was the only female, the manager we had just didn't have a clue what to do with me and I ended up getting all the pointless jobs. It totally knocked my confidence and when I graduated I just fell into administration. If you were considering IT (or other engineering / programming careers) whilst at school what support did you receive? I don’t remember getting any advice at school, there weren’t many computers there by the time I left so it was not really seen as a career. My parents advised me to look at what the IT courses at university required for A levels which at the time was Maths and Physics so I took those instead of an IT A level.

I'm also a new data manager having been in the job for just a couple of weeks, so I've found this thread really useful. It's a new role that's been created here so I'm still working out what things I will and won't be doing, as are SLT.
