A typical NZ 21st usually involves a big party with family & friends (usually a BBQ if it's not winter) and a "yard glass" of beer (not sure if you have them over here - although I'm not sure I could manage a yard of English Ale, being warm and flat as you all seem to like it...... ick)

English ale is the greatest in all the land!

A yard of Black Sheep ale, now that'd be something [-o<

For my 21st I went out into town with the lads to get plastered and have a good time on friday, then day after (my actual birthday) we went bowling with the WAGs and went to pizza hut after, day after my birthday I went for a meal with my family, quite a busy weekend.

Just remember you don't have to get it all done in one day, spread the fun across a weekend and make it last.

whaaaaa, I like my beer cold!!

Nothing better on a hot day, a cold beer in a glass thats been kept in the freezer! (apparently its a very american thing to do, not that i've ever been...)

Ale admitedly is ok warm (i still prefer cold)

Surely a yard of lager would do?

To be honest I am fed up of seeing the results of various birthdays being left outside my front door every weekend. I happen to live opposite a pub, chinese takeaway and a kebab shop in the center of town so you can imagine what I find.

Yep. For those who get drunk most of the time when they go out with friends... try staying sober one night when you go out with them and watch them all get drunk. Then you realise exactly how bad it really is.

I have witnesses other friends of mine getting drunk in a series of overnight parties... we went for a walk and one of them decided to urinate as he was walking and thought it was hilarious (he just completely embarassed me). Another decided to walk across the wrong side of a bridge which was over an A road - highly dangerous. He dropped his phone over the bridge by accident as he was climbing over. So he climbed down the bank and walked onto this A road to collect it.

In the morning he didn't remember any of it... idiot.

Most certainly lager is infinitely better served cold, but quite often they don't do the job and for that you need an ale.

tbh my drink of choice when out is a good ol' pint o' Guinness, love the stuff, don't think i'd be able to hack a yard of the stuff though lol

depth charges or carbombs or whatever you want to call them, are great on st patricks day!

Actually, i enjoy them any day!

For the uninitiated:

1/2 shot Jameson whiskey (or good irish whiskey)

1\2 shot Baileys Irish Cream

1can/pint of guiness

Layer the jamesson over the baileys in a shot glass

Fill Glass with guiness

Carefully float the shot glass in the guiness, then drink the whole thing before it curdles.

Wonderfull drink!

I would like to make it clear that I am a very sensible drinker and do not try this if you are below the legal age or have a weak disposition to alcohol!

But I do only drink when I enjoy it, never with the aim of getting drunk!

For my 21st myself and a groups of friends (10 lads) went to Dublin for a long weekend.... Lots of very funny and very stupid storys to tell.

Its only a few weeks now until my 23rd Birthday, and the plan this time is to start drinking at about 1pm on a sunday and drink right through until the early hours of the next day.
