Just a general question!

Has anyone tried getting out of warranty projectors repaired?

If so where and how much!

I guess it may be important to the topic the projector I'm looking to get repaired is an Hitachi.

Not wishing to overload this thread, but what are peoples veiws on repair, is it cost effective?

What's wrong with it/them? Do you have an IT Service Level Agreement with your LEA?

It's blowing the ring main circuit breaker and no we have no SLA with the LEA for such things

If the problem is caused by an inherent fault of the projector then you have up to 5/6 years under the sale of goods act to claim against the company that supplied it to you.

OWW! Have you tried a different mains lead? If you have, it is probably the filter capacitor that has failed, which should be economical to repair.

@plexer Are you sure? Sale of Goods act is a consumer protection. We aren't consumers.

Try Roche Audio Visual always been pretty good repairing stuff for us:

Not doubting your experience here at all but I have had some shoddy experiences with them myself. We have some equipment in warranty with them and their service has been less than impressive. Apart from the warranty stuff I won't deal with them again.

I find it cheaper to bin the blasted thing and get a new one, everyone thats gone faulty has always been quoted at over £300 to repair, I can get a new projector with 3 year warranty and spare bulb for just over that.

Sure do (meant to say this in my post above  )

I don't bother with projector repairs. The last batch I bought had a three year unlimited bulb warranty, when thats up I'll get another batch.

I have had about 5 of these recently, ranging in cost from £339 to the latest of £299, all when used in 1500 ansi-lumens mode (normal / low mode) have a 3 year unlimited hr bulb warranty, if used in high its only 90 days - it has a counter for each mode so you are warned! But 3 year projector and 3 year bulb you cannot go wrong, when the thing dies after the 3 years, bin it and get a new one as the bulbs nearly the cost of the projector.
