Project for Gifted and Talented?

I work in a junior school and there is currently quite a budget available for Gifted and Talented and the teacher with ICT responsibility wants to do something IT related with the upper end of the school.

She is thinking something coding related - possibly raspberry pi?

I have no ideas about this - I don't do coding or anything like that.

Has anyone got anything they can suggest?

mrwITch is involved with the STEM initiative and he is going to see if he can go to a junior school - currently he goes into senoir schools - but beyond that I am at a loss.

Have a chat with @garethedmondson about C@S stuff if you are thinking about coding ... and there are a few STEM groups at BETT too.

I would also look at the webmaker projects run by the Mozilla Foundation.

The Head of ICT at my new school is thinking of doing something along the lines and is going to use a Raspberry PI with a weatherstation

Thanks all but I think - I may be wrong - that you are all senior school? It seems that we are looking for something for the whole school G & T which would be years 3-6. I think she is thinking of a whole project that has various aspects that different ages of children could handle. But @sdc, if you think you have anything that would be of interest - at least for the year 6's before they come up to the senior school, I (or the ICT lead) would be very keen to see it!

Many schools are using Kodu as part of their Gifted and Talented provision. Anything which provides some sort of computational thinking. Small Basic is another one. Microsoft Research TouchDevelop is now being seen in some schools - https://www.touchdevelop.com
