Ive done that before but the guy whos wallet I found wasnt so greatful when I went to his house and handed it back he just slammed the door in my face after taking the wallet.

And thank you to the man who bothered to prise up mrwITch's wedding ring from where it had been stamped into the pavement and then took it to the police station. It wasnt an expensive ring (basic 9ct gold) but has sentimental value, obviously.
