A couple of PCs have full access to network but no internet access

Good morning,

 

yesterday we had an issue with our Sonicwall NSA240 device which in a nutshell prevented the whole school from accessing the internet for an hour or so. According to sonicwall support they had to adjust the MTU on the WAN interface, Anyway, internet access was restored to the masses.

 

However, since the the issue we now have 2 machines that refuse to connect to the internet. They both have all the correct info within IPCONFIG /ALL but the differences between these machines and ones that can access the internet are as follows:

 

No Internet PC / Internet PC

Ping Gateway NO / YES

Ping other servers YES / YES

netsh winhttp show proxy NO PROXY / NO PROXY

ARP -A Missing g/w / Has g/w info

 

One of the machines has since been completely rebuilt with a fresh copy of Win 7 but it hasn't made any difference.

 

EDIT: Both machines are in different places on the physical network.

 

Any help/guidance will be greatly appreciated as always.

Have you tried restting winsock and TCP stack?

 

netsh winsock reset catalog

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit

Is the default gateway the Sonicwall?

 

Not being able to ping the default gateway is almost definitely the issue.

I have just tried the winsock reset and reseting the HOSTS file but still no joy.

 

As for the Sonic, yes there is a firewall on the device but tbh it's not locked down too much at the moment as our RM Smartcache box went belly up last week and has been sent off for repair. We have just allowed all access to a range of IPs that reflects our DHCP scope and have turned off the Proxy setting on the workstations.

PC is now on my test bench where another PC was previously plugged in and successfully accessed the internet. This machine however still will not connect.

FFS - Panic over!!!!

 

Looking at our sonicwall settings it look like the chap from Sonicwall whi was connecting through yesterday to look at our initial internet issue, he went and changed the subnet mask on the LAN interface!!!!!!

 

I'm about to have a rant at Sonicwall support! What I don't get though is why this didn't effect all the machines on site???

this machine was probably past the end of the subnet on the sonic wall whilst the rest are probably within the subnet of the sonic wall.

Nah. All machines including servers and Sonicwall are in 255.255.254.0. However the support chap put the LAN interface on the Sonicwall to 255.255.255.0

but what IP.

 

if the sonic is on 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0

 

it can see 192.168.0.1-192.168.0.255

 

if the pc is on 192.168.1.x/255.255.254.0 it can see the sonic but the sonic can't see it.
