Laptop switches on but then straight off again? Have had two do it.

Hi,

 

I've got two laptops that are doing the same thing, they turn on and then straight back of again.

 

I have reseated the ram etc. I then thought that it could be overheating as i left it overnight and they worked the next morning but after opening i found the insides are clean. They have now been turned on for hours and arnt kicking out excessive heat.

 

Any ideas?

 

The only thing i can think of is something with the motherboard but im not sure.

have you tried without the batteries in?

Could it be a problem with the AC connector (i.e. connector loose in the socket)? I've seen that plenty of times with laptops and can be VERY frustrating.

 

The last laptop I saw it on, would work on a desk/table fine, however whenever it was on a lap, the AC power dropped, forcing it to rely on the battery.

What make/model of laptop ?

If the CPU fan isn't spinning faster enough or isn't spinning at all, this will drigger the notebook to switch off.

Thanks for the replies, just trying to work it out the reason for the next one to do it.

 

Yep tried with mains only and battery only.

 

I gave the cables a wiggle and didnt seem to help. Both seem to be working again now so will have to wat for the next one to do it.

 

One was a Acer and the other i cant remember. We repair machines for teachers cheaply, saves us buying hundreds of laptops.

 

I believe everything spins up inc fan and HDD but you dont get anything on the screen, i believe the backlight comes on.

faulty battery?

 

battery drained? and dc not charging battery?

 

could be faulty memory (but laptop will switch on...but blank screen)

 

unplug battery and try power cord?.....

 

worst case scenario motherboard dead as a dodo?
