Stopping word docs opening in IE7

Just before I go looking into the policies, I was wondering if anyone knew how to stop or set the default way of IE7 dealing with word docs.

Currently if users are using IE7 and they click on a word doc, they get the usual 'what do you want to do with this' type message - open or save, if they open it opens up in IE7 / Word. I just want it to fire off word and open it in there.......

Seems odd that you set word as the default prog that opens up word but when faced with a word doc via IE7, it opens it up in IE7 / word mixture......

Pointers anyone...?

Anyone know where the policy is for un-checking the Browse in the same window ? [ Which is in folder options --> Edit File Type ]

Matt - not tested with IE7 as we run IE6 but to stop documents opening in a IE/Word cut down window, and force the documents to open in a FULL Word window, do the following:

 

Open "My Computer"

Go to "Tools" >> "Folder Options"

Go to "File Types" tab

Scroll down to "DOC" extension

Click "Advanced"

At the bottom, you untick "Browse in same Window"

Click "OK"

 

You also have "Confirm Open after Download" this is what makes IE ask you whether you want to open, or save the document. If you untick this then when you click on a word document - it will just open in a new word window automatically.
