HDMI connectors unreliable?

Hey all,

 

We had a could of classrooms refitted over the summer with HDMI AV setups (PC HDMI out to HDMI switch to HDMI wall plate to HDMI projector) and we are seeing problems where the connectors will move a little cutting the display. It seems the slightest movement of the console or brush past the wall plate will affect the setup where as the DVI / VGA connectors screw in and stay put.

 

I have thought about hot-gluing the connectors at the sides but don't know how effective this would be on the metal wall plate / back of a PC.

 

Is anyone else finding this? Any other ideas on making the connectors teacher / student proof?

I've had a few broken ports already and I only have a few devices. HDMI does feel a bit domestic and or weedy. I'd stick to VGA until projectors or laptops stop coming with them.

VGA on laptops is becoming a problem for presentation work, as they are skimping on mfr costs by leaving out the bail posts.

I dont like wall plates, they introduce signal loss and are largely unnecessary if the the cable management is handled correctly. I would get a long enough cable and run it directly through the trunking.

So when someone knackers a connector, you have to replace the lead all the way to the projector? You really think this is better, especially in the digital domain?

The HDMI lead in the wall - is it soldered or just plugged in behind the socket?

 

Personally I think a small hole in the trunking, with a HDMI coupler would be better.

I use a lot of these and I haven't had any issues so far. They are plug and play so are easy to replace if one gets damaged. Also a very snugg fit, so it would need a substantial hit to dislodge the connector.
