Sophos Endpoint Security & Control

Hi all,

 

I am having some difficulty installing this on one of my servers. The other 170 went fine but this one appears to have some remnants of McAfee on which I cannot seem to shift. I have contacted Sophos but I have been working on this all day and I am starting to pull my hair out now. Reinstalled a copy of McAfee and uninstalled to see if that would help but no joy.

 

Between McAfee and Sophos we had Forefront on which went fine but we are not out of license and Sophos is what we are going for. This is 1 out of 170 servers that has failed and is driving me mad, any suggestions?

have you tried the McAfee uninstall unit?

I have tried one that I found online but not sure if its a corporate one, can you send me a link please?

I'm not on a pc at the mo it's something like mvunist or similar

When we had to remove McAfee from our Windows XP 32 Bit workstations it would not complete the un-install. After a little work I found a something I could include in a batch file:

 

cd C:\Program Files\McAfee\Common Framework
frminst /forceuninstall
pause

 

I included the 'pause' so that I could verify that the un-install had finished normally.

 

It worked every time.

I have a vague memory that Sophos can provide a specific uninstaller to remove third party products?

Normally Sophos removes any other products when the installer starts to run - or can you not get the installer to run?

I run the setup which has the CRT (competitor removal tool) included and it fails due to not been able to remove a product that inst even installed. Tried it with and without the CRT.

Right had a reply from Sophos, using the avremove.log I have had to go through this and find where it has found stuff and manually remove this from the registry allowing me to install the AV successfully. Took some time doing but I now have it working.
