server replaced .client pc's looking for old network path

Hi All

 

We replaced our 2003 server and purchased 2008 r2 server. Everything ok just 1 sticking point. if we try to uninstall or install a programme the client pc's are looking for the old server path ie \\server\cfs\software\etc which is no longer available and the old server was taken away to be destroyed .The actual network path is \\mpserver\cfs\software\ but struggling to find where i can delete the old path either on the client side or on server side to point to the new path

In this instance no . ive installed software via group policy no problem at all. but if i try to uninstall locally or install something i get the error message network path not found.

When do you get the message i.e. when you rebuild or install a certain bit of software.

 

There could be any number of things to be honest, custom scripts installing software etc.

 

What software do you get the error message on?

This sounds vaguely familiar, I think I may have had this problem before. If memory serves, it's something to do with the user profile. An entry in the registry causing the installer to look in the wrong place for the default install path. Something to do with the recent files list, I think.

As tmcd35 points to this is exactly whats happening .Somewhere something is pointing to an old path . For example i logged in to a cliet npc this am as admin. i attempted to install Audacity .installer starts and then stops sayng it cant find the old path . When i save work the same applies .

try searching the registry for the old path, once you know where the path is stored you can try deleting it, or writing a script to modify it to the correct path.

 

Of course take a back up of the relevant registry keys first, and work on a PC you don't mind re imaging
