Just joined this forum. I'm a JBoss consultant who has to work on linux systems. I've mostly used Windows before but have a decent understanding of all linux/solaris systems etc.. but still getting up to speed.

Just call me Flakes, im a ICT Technician for a High School in Newcastle area...i specialise in PHP, HTML, ISA and Linux. Im pretty much a general dogs body and do a bit of everything related to the Computers and Network around the school.

Hi everybody,

 

 

I'm an IT consultant working for a large Apple Reseller.

 

Someone showed me the forum and i thought i would pop in and see what problems you guys are having with Macs in school networks. We've done a lot of work on this over the last few years.

 

Hope you don't mind me not working for an education establishment!

 

I am a geek though!!

My name is Steve, and I am a co-director of a small education specialist network cabling/wireless (and associated bits n bobs) company based out of Kettering Northants, but we spend most of our time working in Schools in Hertfordshire (funny enough).

 

Here really to keep up with the prefered IT trends in education.

I could have sworn I did an intro a couple of years back - but I see no posts from me. Of course I totally understand it they were tossed out as rubbish. Anyway I'm back or still here.

 

I work at one of the larger school districts clustered around the Portland OR area. Something like 37,000 students - over 45 schools (elementary - middle schools - high schools) - and around 14,000 total computers. I provide direct support at one of our high schools (about 2000 students) supporting students - staff - local networking - printers - classroom technology - and local servers.

 

Our school is 70% macs and the rest PCs which is something like 430 macs and 175 PCs.

 

This is my 4th year in the district at this position - prior to that I have 24 years in the high tech private sector. That experience ranged from starting out as a HW tech to doing 16yrs at Intel and finishing there as a senior HW engineer and a total burn-out.

 

I'm now looking at about 14yrs until I retire (unless the world physically or economically blows up) and plan to do that with in the educational technical support area.

 

Coming from the outside into education - I have to say in general I am highly impressed with how hard our teachers and administrators work to get our students educated.

Hello! I'm Matt, I started as the network manager at a Lincolnshire high school two weeks ago, having been a techie at a different school for a couple of years before that.

 

I've got a degree in Internet Technology (and thus lots of practice in reappropriating other people's hard work for my own nefarious ends), did the CCNA course as part of that and I'm doing my MCSA (2003) in the coming year.

 

This morning I have been mostly swearing at Groupcall Xporter and trying to work out how SMTP and Exchange 2007 play together. Thus far it is not going well. Hurrah for LEAs and their seemingly simple requests!

Hi - I'm Rob. I'm from Cork. And I notice that there's no option to choose an Irish Flag, let alone a Cork one in the registration!!!!!
