newpersn Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 I just got a shinny new moniter (LED 22" DVI and VGA) for my work computer, Now im looking for a graphics card that will go in side the computer. (Stone Low Form Factor) I know i have a PCI-Express 2.0 Slow inside. What graphics card could i get to go in. (i do a little bit of video editing at times)

On a WhySoSerious note: what's your 'budget'? - I'd have suggested a 9800-GT but I really doubt it'd do the job these days, but it was so win back in the day absolutely loved that card. Well. i would love that card... but way out my budget.. Around the £50 mark..
sonofsanta Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 (edited) What do you need it for? If it's just GPU, any GPU, get a Sapphire 5450. Will run two or three monitors, comes with both low profile brackets (some manufacturers leave out the VGA bracket), will run you less than £20 ex VAT. There's not anything more powerful available under £50, from a brief eBuyer search; best you'll get is the 7750 low profile which is a remarkably powerful card for the size, but is £100 not £50. EDIT: just read the video editing remark, duh. In which case, nVidia cards tend to have better support in applications, so the GeForce 610 is your low profile option <£50 Edited October 12, 2012 by sonofsanta
Fleetwood Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 I bought the GTX 680 for my PC build, the GTX 690 came out 2 weeks later PC World are selling an AMD 6670 for 49.99. Not a bad card for that price, averages 4 stars on a lot of reviews - benchmark results look okay but you can judge for yourself! - the 9800 from NVIDIA is still superior to it, but they're still selling at around 80-100. Just a quick search I did though, I expect others may find better! Good luck

You wont be running any games on them but they work fine for everything else I've tried. Was there a specific reason/app you needed the video card for as apart from gaming/3D rendering or additional monitor outputs onboard video cards are typically pretty good these days? They'll take RAM up if you're on a 32-bit OS and already bouncing off the 4Gb limit; if you're on x64, or only have 2Gb RAM in the first place, you're fine. GDDR5 will be much quicker if you can find it on a card but it's unlikely on a card <£50. Avoid any with DDR2 on though, what looks like a bargain there may will just be a lemon. sonofsanta Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Not much better than modern integrated graphics, tbh. Is pretty much a rebranded GT 530 rather than anything actually new. Not enough of an upgrade to warrant £38 and not cheap enough to be used for basic multi-monitor support; for the former, spend a bit more and get something a lot better, for the latter get a 5450 for £20. The 630 is a pointless middle-ground.

May still be overkill for what you need though. I dont mind the over kill. Just limited on what i can use. Low profile case and powersupply. I might have to go talk to my line manager Try and get one of those ATI cards ^^
