Lowest Spec Windows 7 Computers

Just interested to know whats the lowest spec are your windows 7 computers.

 

I just testing a Dell GX620 (intel Pent D with 2GB of ram.

 

Other rooms are

 

2 Rooms are Stones: I3 @ 3.2Ghz with 4gb ram. 160GB Sata

1 Room are Dell 380: Core 2 Duo with 3GB Ram 160GB Sate

 

The oldest room is Dell GX620 ^

gx270's here. Fine as thin clients, decent enough with w7 without AV.

Our oldest are 45 Stone 213/215's - Dual core with 2gb ram, 80gb sata. Probably going to pull them all out next summer holiday.

Our oldest 7 machines are some based on Intel 915G chipset with P4 HT processors, 2.5GB DDR RAM, and some with Athlon 64s on Xpress200, 2.5GB of DDR RAM. Only got a total of 9 of all of all of these though.

 

My self-imposed minimum specs were:

 

64 bit capable processor (no 32 bit stuff other than some legacy XP machines and servers)

SATA HDD

2GB + of RAM

Aero capable graphics

 

Seem to work out quite well on those. Tried it on even older stuff and it was painful, so set those limits.

I've seen it installed on a Toshiba L20, not 100% sure what the specs are but the laptops are over 5years old. It runs quite fast too!!!

That sounds like the spec. But with 2gb ram. If i get the test to run ok. Then the whole room is going to run windows 7. Just have to order the ram.

 

Plus we are using pc2-6400 insted of the pc2-4200 which is standard

You will most likely find that the RAM won't run at 800MHz, it was 667MHz tops on (most?) motherboards with 945G chipset, or 533MHz on 915. No real cost difference now though so worth a pop.

Stone MR052 laptop, old mobile Core2Duo, 2GB RAM

 

CPU not a problem, HDD was awful but upgraded them to SSD; even on IDE mode it makes a huge difference.

Wouldn't of thought be cost difference now. Being ddr3 now..

@FN-GM do yours have an AHCI option in the BIOS?

 

Ours are in good physical condition so seemed a waste to get rid, wish the batteries lasted a bit longer though

Not sure, it was a real pain getting them to work with Windows 7. I needed to flash the BIOS on each one with a modified one from Stone.

 

They are to old for our environment.

Just put Windows 7 on a few Fujitsu's today... 512mb RAM, Intel Celeron CPU. Actually runs *ok* on two of them, the third one though is painfully slow! - Same spec too! Other then the odd ones we're mainly at least 4GB RAM, i3.

Not running Windows 7 but my boss went to see a perspective new client yesterday who is still running a Windows 3.1 machine

The garage that has serviced my cars for the last 15 years is still running the 386 I put in for him with page accounts (free version of sage at the time) and dot matrix printer, all using DOS, none of your new fangled windows malarkey! It works for him, I swear he's about 100 years old and doesn't want to have to learn some new system or how to use a mouse

I'm not sure if its keeping him alive or he keeps it alive, I reckon when one dies the other will go! Anyway, he's dutifully kept backups of everything over the years, I guess it could be spun up in a virtualbox?

More likely to get it running in VMware - it supports a hell of a lot more OS's then Virtualbox and Hyper-V

The lowest spec computer I have put windows 7 on with AV is a HP Compaq nx6110 which has 512mb ram 333.0 MHz and Intel Pentium M 730 / 1.6 GHz with a graphics chip Intel GMA 900 - 32.0 MB it runs ok with win 7 and office 2010.

Lowest spec we have here are HP DC5800s running Core2Duo at 2.8GHz with 2Gb of RAM - I am delighted that this is now my baseline in school after the state of some IT rooms three years ago!

 

They run everything fine with the sole problem that, depending on the motherboard, the onboard graphics are occassionally not up to much and an overly complicated webpage - including, annoyingly, ePortal - will make it flake out and display nothing except a black screen. Sticking a dGPU in sorts it out, but it wouldn't be so much of a problem if the Win7 GPOs actually let me control Aero easily and per-computer instead of being daft first-logon profile guff
