Patience.

Lots of it. Today I feel mine wearing a little thin.

If I get asked one more time for a printer in room...

[We can't supply the printer because it is currently our end of year and we are not allowed to make purchases]

Well don't you have a spare?

If we had one that wasn't being used now it would be put somewhere it would be used so no we don't have a spare.

It all depends on what teh job description is.

A network manager is not necessarily a departmental manager , or a technician, or a financial controller.

In essence a Network manager should manage the network and nothing else. That's anything that creates an interconnection.

It would exclude desktop support unless the desktop technician determins that the network on the desktop is an issue.

It would exclude staff management as that is the support department manager

Etc....

Define the role 1st ;)

In my LA - what distinguishes a NM from a tech is threefold:

1) You have to manage at least one person (ridiculous - a local school had to give their tech a TA for a couple of hours a week so that he could be made NM)

2) You have control of a budget

3) You take full control of projects from getting quotes to arranging installation etc (funny, I already do that...)
