Job Wanted In ICT

Hi All,

 

I am a young enthusiastic lad who would like to get into an ICT job, I have no qualifications as such ( I have 2 GCSEs in ICT ) but I am very experienced in Microsoft Windows Server 2003 & Microsoft Windows Server 2000 Domain environments. I am also apart of Microsoft Windows Server 2008 BETA testing program. I have been administering them for a few years now and i have picked up some experience. I know about many factors including:

- Domain Environments including Domain Controllers

- Group Policies

- Active Directory

- VPN

- Microsoft Exchange Server

- DNS

- DHCP

and many more.

 

Although as you can see i have no qualifications as yet i am an experienced user and i know to job well :!: I can provide proof of this by references or some sort of test. I would like to get a job administering Microsoft Windows Server Domains. Some companies provide training I am more than willing to do this and I am prepared to learn.

 

I live in the Rochdale, so preferably I would like a job here or in the surrounding towns.

Am not sure, but I don't think anyone can legally take you on without going through the entire interview process with other candidates etc. so you are probably best looking at the jobs advertised as opposed to advertising yourself.

Where did you gain all your experience if you have ot worked in IT FN

The only way i found to get into IT without qualifications was to do an NVQ apprentiship, but i was still lucky to get the job at the end of that.

 

My advice would be to look for "junior tech" positions and then do a CCNA, MCSA, Network/A+ etc at a college on a night class, or even just studying on your own.

 

TBH though if you are as good as you *sound* id just go straight in and enter myself for a MCSA and/or Network+ exam. If you pass then you will be one step closer to getting a good job, if not just go on the course.

I got all my experience mainly from reading MCSE books and setting up my own domain

If you are currently unemployed, you could ask round your local schools to see if anyone would be willing to take on a volunteer for a few hours a week - they'd need to get a CRB check done and may ask you to pay for that, but you'd be getting valuable experience which would look good on your CV when the right job does come up.

Thinking about it... we have had some young geeks here who have found it very hard working at secondary schools, especially their own school.

 

It's difficult to be staff when you are remembered as a pupil by everyone.

 

You may find it easier to get started as a volunteer at Primary level. The networks are smaller, but the experience will be no less useful and you'll get an opportunity to learn to be old!

 

Don't be afraid of contacting the independent schools either

I can confirm what elsiegee40 has just said having been a volunteer techie in my own school whilst in VI form. It's a very good way to learn but you do get taken advantage of if you're not careful about saying "NO" from time to time.

 

Have you tried the job search on the job centre website. Also contacting your local LEA might prove helpful in finding out whether there's any jobs at local schools etc.

I work at my old secondary school now and started at the age of 17. I left in June 2003 and started work July 2005. It was a bit weird at first as some of teachers i have known for over 10 years as they are friends of the family. Others were a bit unsure to start of with but once you fix a few problems and save their asses a few times they soon respect you like any other member of staff.

 

I started as junior ICT tech part time and am now full time and have run the network for the past year since my old NM left and they replaced him with another technician.

 

They paid for the vast majority of my wages when i started by getting 3 of the feeder primarys to pay 2-4k each a year depending on size for me to go there half a day a week, and then they basically had a free technician for three and a half days a week!!! You could suggest that if you wanted??

 

Although i would say the hardest thing about working in your old school is the kids as most them will remember you and so will kick up a bit of a fuss and refuse to call you sir. This was funny for me as my brother was in yr11 when i started so he had to call to me sir

Hi all just a quick update, I was working at a CLC until the end of term and they are considering on taking me on permanently. But if they don't i will need another job. Does anyone know of any please?
