I have a question, what is the situation at your school about DVDs being played eg. Educational Films or Popular Movies? as we all know but are not sure about if it is prohibited to do it (not authorized).

I would like to know your situation in your school, because I have an idea or proposal to start an after school activity once a week to have some kind of movie screeing in the main hall (like little cinema), with films that pupils would want to watch.

Greetings

We just turn a blind eye - as long as they aint copying it.
School staff would never even think of copying any sort of media, surely!

Yeah, as far as i understand, all educational sites (such as goverment) have some sort of special license for screen and broadcasting, i also believe it covers copyright for some media types also. If you query it with your bursar, they should be the best person to ask.

If it does come to a shuff and you need a good 'educational' excuse, claim it's a tatser session to get students interested into media studies, which inturn will get the schools GCSE and A-Level prospects up!

You DO need to licence the showing of vids and DVDs (and the playing of copyright music). Performing Rights Society (PRS) are the people your Bursar needs to contact.

Your ERA licence will cover off-air recordings, INCLUDING copying to a server.

Search for PVS licence (or PVSL) and you will find the relevant information about why schools need to get a licence ... and other stuff linked to that is held at filmbank.co.uk as mentioned by Andy

Thank you all for your feedback, I will check the situation with licenses at school and if its possible, then to go ahead .

I know this is an old thread, sorry for bringing it back, but how would a boarding school stand under the PVSL? It is on the same premises and same students so my understanding would be that we are covered by the normal PVSL? Anyone have any ideas?
