firewire card causes dell to reboot

hi added a firewire pci card to a dell and not it keeps rebooting any ideas

Have you got automatically restart on sytem failure checked? If so uncheck it to see some useless white writing on a blue screen.

sorry should clarify resets when shutdown comp i.e turns off and then back on again..

Tried taking the card back out? Trying it in another PC?

We've got the same problem. Bought 4 Firewire PCI cards and installed them into 4 RM PC's. When shutdown, they'll turn back on.

 

(Interestingly, so do our servers, although they don't have firewire!)

 

The only solution we've found to this Russ, is to disable Wake on LAN on the affected PC.

 

I'd be interested to know if anyone else knows of a solution.

Do you still have something attached to it that is not host powered?

 

IIRC there are one or two brands of firewire cards that have wake facilities (an off shoot of the wake on lan stuff for when doing IP over Firewire)

Have you tried - i know this is obvious - using a different version of the drivers? latest or ones known to the problem?

 

Bios update for the computers in question?

Not a "wake on" system event in the BIOS? Wake on PCI I'm sure is in there..

My money is on a firmware bug. What happens if you try a Linux Live CD (eg, knoppix) does that barf too? if so, whats the error message?
