I just had a new bottom bracket, sks race blade longs and continental Gatorskin tires and a full service and my road bike feels amazing again.

 

I get free servicing for 3 years

Cycle to work looks good until you factor in the fact that if you're after a new bike and time it right, you can usually buy last years model at a discount that's as good as the cycle to work scheme would offer. Without the paperwork, requirement to stay in the same job or the uncertainty about when the bike is actually yours. C2W was dreamed up by a committee of tax accountants with no idea how it would work in the real world. Taking vat off new bikes would have been much simpler.

Is that the new type (on sale about a month back) or the old style ones that they have been selling for about 5 years now?

The older ones I thought were fine and required waterproofing every now and again, but not had chance to try the new ones in the wet yet.

As you said though, for less than £5 you can't really grumble.

Well, I'm grumbling. I've added these to the 'cheap-and-not-very-good' drawer chock full of gloves which are cheap and not very good. When will I learn.

it was -.4c according to the computer thismorning. My gloves a Lidl full finger onse. Not realy tried int eh rain yet to any big degree.

I quite like my gloves, they are very good warm and water proof, got them for about £10 on ebay....These ones: Fox Gloves Not water proof as standard but I had a tin of spray on teflon which works really well

Go to a shop and try a few helmets. Everyone's head is a different shape (within reason) and you need to try them to find a comfortable fit.

 

As for a jacket, I use MountainLife Isodry jacket - fantastic. Make sure you get the cycling version, which is cut lower to keep

your back/kidneys warm. Not too hot for a rainy summer day, yet windproof enough for subzero winters. I use it everyday in all weathers. It really is an excellent jacket, and very hard-wearing.

I was going to recommend the Altus NightVision - it's a good jacket, but it ripped quite easily when I fell off. If you don't fall off, you'll be fine with this.

I went in there today and bought the last of their base layers (I was lucky, they had one top and one bottom left!) plus two pairs of the trousers.

 

They certainly kept me warm and they seem pretty good quality. The only minor gripe that I have is that the padding in the trousers isn't all that but otherwise I'm happy, especially for what they cost. If you're after some winter cycling clothes, I recommend them

Santa is bringing me a decent pair of winter cycling gloves I hope.

Only a couple of weeks to the shortest day too.. Then we have to use lights less... It was realy dark on Monday, had to walk in yesterday as we were going for Food afterwork and today I have been elsewhere....

 

Popped 25Miles in the bag on Sunday though.

 

I am still trying to get my Bike to 1000Miles by christmass. 50Miles left to go, so that's ten work and back trips..

 

 

Will pop into aldi tomorrow.

I fell foul of a stray piece of broken bottle at the weekend, and I have torn a big hole imn the sidewall of my front tyre and shredded part of the inner tube and with no money to replace it, looks like the bikes in the shed until new years
