[sccm 2012] Install Software During OS Image

Hi,

 

I have finally got SCCM 2012 OSD working, i just need to make a few minor tweaks.

 

How do i get SCCM to install software that is assigned to the collection where the computer lives during imaging please?

 

Basically i want it so as soon as the the imaging process has finished the assigned software for that machine is there and installed.

That's exactly what you have do do if you are using the original 2007 Packages. The new Apps allows multiple app installs per TS step. There was a way of sequencing in 2007, but never got it to work fully...

People don't seem to like this much, why is it a problem particularly? I like having the control over each app and setup process

i agree there should be away like the "install all software updates" but for apps.

 

the way i do it at the moment is just let the client work out for itself once its booted, i don't install much software this way as i use app-v so probably not much use to you, and its not really ideal, i would defintely be interested in something that did this.

 

i wonder how complicated the SDK is, how difficult it would be to add an available step to the task sequences

Package Conversion Manager can convert old packages to application or just import them again as applications. We didnt bring any over from 2007, nice and clean.

 

There is a TS step to install all apps in one section, just need to list them, it's like a 1 min job to add a line in to add a bit of software and you know exactly what its doing. The end goal is the same, seems that you're looking for a solution for a problem that doesnt exist.

i agree i don't really think its a problem, it just would be nice for consistency not to have to advertise it for existing machines and also have add it to the task sequence for new / reimaged machines.

The other option that I use is the advertisement (as it used to be called in 2007) to be "as soon as possible" and on a schedule "if failed". This installs department group software which is advertised to collections based on ad groups (set as membership rules).

Although I agree with the comments of the ease and quickness of applying applications in a task sequence, I do believe with a slight change of your thinking user/device affinity would give a similar result.

 

The only other option I can think of is if the applications are advertised (sorry deployed ) to collections for automatic silent installs, run a script that at the end of your task sequence it auto logs on and sits there for a predetermined amount of time. The SCCM client would then carry out the installs (you can even trigger this event). After the set time expires a second script can clean up the auto logon settings and reboot.
