Does anyone know if this is free? I know you can download version 5 but the computing staff want VB6 on all clients by the end of the summer holidays. They intend to use it in lessons later this year but oddly nobody seems to have an install CD!

I'm fairly convinced that it's not free though..

Can anyone shed some light?

VB6 was end of life'd in 2005, and is in the 'extended' period until 2008. You can't buy new copies of it any more and it certainly has never been free as far as I know.

Why do your staff want to use an out of date package?

Outdated? Mate seriously they're just starting to use PCs, instead of old legacy mac software!

Has VB6 been replaced by anything? I offered them the VB5 version from the MS site last week and they turned their nose up at it.

Point them in the direction of 2005 express edition, its much easier to use than the old VB6 and is totally free.

Cheers chaps, looks like they'll just have to use this unless they find the CD they claim to have of VB6. No doubt they'll want 6 if they do!

VB6 has never been free so even if they produce a cd the likelyhood of you being able to legally install it is looking doubtful anyway.

Just remember that VB.Net is quite different to old-style VB. It may take a few weeks (or longer depending on their learning curves) for the staff to pick it up. Especially when it comes to .Net security and the like
