I am installing Pro Desktop v8 on to the server and then a shortcut on the users desktop. I can run the software from the server. But when i run it from the workstation the startup screen loads as if the program is loading then just disaapears.

Any help would be appreciated.

I think you are going to have to install the application in each workstation either by imaging or msi delivery.

I seriously doubt a cad program would work running from a share.

I know the old version of pro desktop really did not like it if there was not a default printer installed - similar sort of symptoms to this.

yes i can, so that suggests it a policy its not security permissions because i checked and they are the same as the admin domain which works.

So i wonder what would it be in the group policy stopping it.

If i login as administrator run the software then login as a pupil the software will run no problems. I have restarted the machine logged back on as a pupil and the software still loads.

What is causing me to log in as administrator before the software loads on a pupil account????

"c:\program files\ptc\prodesktop 8.0\program\prod.exe" /regserver

cd c:\program files\ptc\prodesktop 8.0\program

prod.exe

exit

That's what i put into a batch file and set it up as the shortcut to run ProD in the start menu. It runs the line to do the regserver thing and then loads the program itself. That fixed our problems with ProD.

Just be thankful you're not dealing with Pro Engineer....that's complicated with license servers and stuff *Sigh*

The regserver thing is what fixed it here. We just put it into a batch file and logged onto every machine one as domain admin ran the file and bam it worked and that was 6months ago and not another problem to this day and we have lots of problems with it!!!

The joys of FlexLM by any chance? I use Mathcad and that uses that, and my applications server never gets a new box as its not financially prudent to do so so it moves boxes frequently and hence the flexlm moves and the NIC Mac changes.... you get the drift, basically its a ball ache.

We habve had a problem with the extrude function in Pro Desktop 8 causing the app to bomb out.

Tried everything above but in the end we have had to run as administrator prior to pupil use... it must just be the software trying to write to somewhere it shouldn't on first use.

We had exactly the same issue.

If I install it on a pc I have to log in and run it as an Administrator once. Before this it would just crash out when trying to extude.

Bad software design I guess.
