Right...it is not because it happened against England...In the run ups there were 12 (yes 12) instances where GLT (Goal line technology) would have determined if another team got through to the final 16. Also in the world cup there were instances. He can't just say yes, as it affects a lot of leagues across the globe and has to be negotiated with the various FA's across the globe. So please don't say that because it happened against England its a must have.

using a highly technical method of putting a piece of paper lining up the assistant ref with the goalpost it looks like its lined up with the ball perfectly.

 

He was probably watching the post thinking "if i see the ball on the right had side of the post its a goal" but due to the angle never did.

I'm all for goal line technology but if we had been using it in this game then we would have conceded a goal that should never have been allowed because of the much more blatant offside in the build up. Then we would be complaining about the assistant referee for not spotting the offside.

 

The point i'm making is there will always be mistakes and goal line technology will only stop a small number of these mistakes. What about all the penalties that should/shouldn't have been given?

 

Yes we should use technology if we can but there will still be mistakes that we have to accept are part of the game - if there wasn't controversy what would we all talk about afterwards??

Quarter Final Predictions...

 

Czech Republic v Portugal 0-2

Germany v Greece 3-0

Spain v France 2-1

England v Italy 1-0

Looks like Germany are through! They look like the team to beat for me. Spain look good but not as good

Is anyone else not surprised at all as to how we went out?

 

Poor performance, last night, where we let the Italians have far too much possession, and they could/should have been out of sight by full time.

 

Oh well.....Brazil 2014 to look forward to....but hope that Young, Milner, Terry and Cole get nowhere near THAT particular squad!

 

The reasons why I pick those?

 

Young - Did virtually nothing for most of the tournament, except unneccessary diving at every opportunity

Milner - Waste of a shirt. Every time he got wide, he tried to cut back in instead of crossing the ball. If he did manage a cross, it was generally very poor quality.

Terry - Hope he'll never wear an England shirt again. "We know what you said"

Cole - Great full back, but will fade away now.

watching that game last night, the more it went on, the less likely England seemed to be able to win, Italy were all over them in the second half, was looking at stats earlier also and its pretty damning, worst possible day to have a bad game looking at it.

The problem seemed to be that England operated on the assumption that the Italians should have the ball, and if they accidentally came into possession themselves they needed to give it back as soon as possible so everything was right in the world again.

 

The difference in marking was, well, marked as well. Rooney consistently had 3 or 4 blue shirts closing him down, whereas the Italians looked to have a contagious disease judging by the reluctance of the English defence to go near them.

The Italians should have finished them off in the 90minutes to end the suffering.

We were only ever going to get this far with the tactics Roy was using. It was refreshing to see the team throwing their bodies in front of shots etc and we looked a lot more like a team during this tournament. Hopefully he can fine tune the tactics and we can achieve something in the future.

 

Gerrard, A.Cole, Terry and Hart can come home with their heads high.
