24" Monitor - Can anyone recommend one ?

Hello all,

 

I am looking to get a new monitor for my home PC at the end of the month, I am looking to spend around £130, I want to aim for as decent a screen as I can get for the money, at the moment I have a 19" Acer Widescreen Monitor, which has a wierd max screen resolution of 1366 x 768 I believe, obviously thats tiny, so I want a decent resolution capable monitor, that can handle games well (nothing super effects wise, just WoW and Diablo3 type games) I have a decent enough GFX card in that it is HDMI capable also.

 

I ask on here, I have had a look at ebuyer/scan/novatech/overclockers and I generally read reviews more than anything after the specs, though on places like ebuyer reviews either seem to be from the manufacturer or people that go off on a tangent not relating to the product.

 

Also - which is better to go for LCD or LED ?

Not that it helps you with regards to which type of screen to go for but I normally look at iiyama ( iiyama )

Thanks, I am considering Ilyama, they seem to be very decent, I have two 20" screens in front of me here on my work PC and the picture is quite excellent.

Thanks, I am considering Ilyama, they seem to be very decent, I have two 20" screens in front of me here on my work PC and the picture is quite excellent.

 

I found the E2475HDS on ebuyer for about £148 and add delivery on top of that although a bad review for it if you are going to be using it for gaming ( only got 2 stars ) so depends on what you will use it for. It also stated not much of a viewing angle on it, defo worth checking out reviews for the different Liyama screens before choosing one to buy

 

Wonder if Panasonic do any decent screens - I know there HD TV's are meant to be pretty good ?

I have the 24" Benq HD on my gaming PC at home and I'm very pleased with it. This is the version going on Amazon.

Got a 24" Samsung Syncmaster at home and it's the most beautiful screen I've ever worked with. 1080p, funky sensors for buttons too

I normally check the reviews on TFT Central before buying any LCDs. You can't go by make since all manufacturers make good and bad monitors.

We bought a couple of IIyama Prolite X2377HDS-1 recently: iiyama

 

Picture is good and circa £100 for a 23" IPS panel with HDMI, DVI and VGA inputs.

 

Only minor niggle is that the stand could be a bit more robust, but since it's not being used by kids, that doesn't really matter.

 

I use a couple of Benq G24*** 24" something or other at home. No complaints.

Thanks for all your input, ive gone for a nice Benq 24" monitor after much deliberation, cant wait until delivery some time next week, no way was I paying a £10 for delivery !

I have 100 or so BenQ G2222HD LED backlit screens at work, they've been a sound buy so far. Nice clear picture, no glossy screen, good viewing angles, well made and good value. Can't recommend them enough.

I'm a bit late here, But I agree with Arthur, check TFT Central amazingly good resource for monitor information.

Problem with many makes is that they don't make the actual panels so just because model "A" of brand "X" is good, doesn't mean the model "B" from brand "X" will be as good.

And because you can get model revisions, sometimes the panel can change as well as the other internal components.

We've got a load of old CTX monitors still happily working, but other later models from them have mostly died.

I've had good experience with iiyama so far, we've got a great old BenQ (MVA panel) but at the same time we had a couple of different model BenQ that both died shortly after they went out of warranty.

 

I do like HannsG as a lower cost brand, (note HannsG is a subsidiary of Hanns Star which is one of the few companies that actually make the panels, the big three being LG, Samsung and Sharp)

I have taken delivery of an awesome 24" Benq HD monitor, it plays all my games brilliantly and no more am I constricted to a 1366x768 screen size, games look so much better, my characters in wow and diablo are massive on screen now and I am considering using the old 19" widescreen I have for a dual setup, so I can have a browser open while watching films / gaming.
