Watch out for eye2eye Britain at BETT Show
MattHarwood replied to greenballoon's topic in Bad Experiences
We also fell prey to this rather suspect outfit. The disk was sent back, they denied receiving it. Then I received a ranting passive-aggressive attack on Google Maps via email. They sent threatening letters, which is up to them, I suppose... -
Another very happy ESET customer here. Paid around £1k for 3 years on 150 endpoints (Endpoint Antivirus). Deployment and updating is seamless and invisible to end users. Reporting and monitoring of detections and problems (such as clients not updating) is straightforward and useful. Support when needed has been perfect, and the footprint on system resources is probably one of the best you're going to get, especially considering the effectiveness of ESET's engine.

EDIT - I need to learn to read... -
I'm a big fan of Brother - we use the HL-5340D and the newer HL-2240D machines here and get incredible yield, and the toners can be had for £25 (compatibles). The finance office goes an academic year on one toner, at least 3000 pages.

What version of Windows is the machine? Try running this on the command line: msiexec /regserver As witch mentioned, check for any MS updates too!

Here's a bigger one! http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YPvJvy6zXZY/ULJ4IQMJT3I/AAAAAAAAAIo/gjItDV-awLc/s640/Ofsted+Pleasing+Machine.jpg

Thanks everyone - I do remember a similar issue a couple of years ago, so it's a shame it can still happen! Redeploying worked - thankfully we don't have many staff that have Discover, so the update warnings weren't too much of an issue. I wish there was a way to explicitly deploy silently! Thanks again

Hi all, I'm having a strange issue with deploying SIMS Discover through SOLUS3. I've 'Updated the environment', and selected the new laptop to be included as a Discover client. I save the changes, and SOLUS says the target definitions have been saved. Then... nothing. No installation, or messages to suggest installation - just nothing! Does anyone have any suggestions please? Thanks!

[sims] Incompatible database - but reporting wrong version
MattHarwood replied to MattHarwood's topic in MIS Systems
Many thanks Rawns - that was it. While copying over the directory from another machine I realised there was a shortcut for (x86) and one for the 64bit Program Files. It was in both, and had updated the 'wrong' one. Thanks again! -
[sims] Incompatible database - but reporting wrong version
MattHarwood posted a topic in MIS Systems
Hi all, Welcome back to those of us that are returning to schools this week I have an issue with the SIMS Summer 2 update, and one machine. The machine is reporting in SOLUS3 that it is running version 7.153, but it's still on version 7.150 in reality - and so keeps showing the Incompatible Database error. I have tried: Redploying 7.153 through SIMS - no joy Running SimsApplicationSetup from \\simsserver\sims\setups Checked SIMS.ini and Connect.ini Checked all permissions Has anyone else seen this please? This is the deputy head's machine, and she has a low tolerance of anything going wrong (I have then questioned why we use SIMS... ) My only idea now is to copy the Program Files directory from a working machine. Thanks in advance! -
Office 365 Home Premium comes in at £8 a month / £80 a year, and includes full desktop versions of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Onenote Publisher and Access. Buy Microsoft Office 365 Home Premium - Office.com I seem to remember Viking Direct were doing Windows 7 Home Premium (full not upgrade) for around the £40-50 mark recently.. might be worth a look

I wasn't here when our current lease was signed, but at the moment we're paying 4.9pence per colour page! Similar quotes I've seen from 3-4 other companies are similar pricing. This includes all toner and servicing, though?
-
There is the RM1599 Government Procurement Framework for photocopiers (Xerox only in lot 1) - their high-end machine is £150/qtr lease with 1.99p per colour page and 0.199p per mono. If that helps https://www.mfd-rm1599.com/Default.aspx

[ms office - 2010] Quick Excel question - as I'm not very good..
MattHarwood replied to MattHarwood's topic in Office Software
clareq, LosOjos - many thanks! Pivot tables were just what I was after. I've got the data just how I wanted it - how hadn't I seen these before?! Thanks again! -
Hi all! I wondered if anyone knew the best way to do the following in Excel. We have a spreadsheet that is generated through the free Papercut software, showing who prints what and when. Is there an easy way to get Excel to look at the Users column, and show which usernames appear most frequently please? Thanks in advance

Thanks for all the replies! The issue was a missing 'SIMSDirectory' definition in SIMS.ini - it's always the basic things you forget, isn't it! Any ideas how I can make sure SOLUS3 pushes the right SIMS.ini out in future please? I've wrote a script to rectify existing installations. vikpaw - I noticed that! However, it is really slow loading for each PDF. The office have already complained... Thanks again everyone

Hi all, We are about to start using SIMS for registration, among other things. I thought the Documentation available via the button within the SIMS interface would be useful for staff, but after pushing out SIMS via SOLUS3, the button seems to do nothing at all. The PDFs are available in S:\Sims\Documentation, so is there somewhere I need to point to for the documentation to load please? Thanks in advance!

Hi all, We are building a new image for our primary school classrooms, and I thought it a good opportunity to ask if anyone has any suggestions for interesting free/open-source software I can include on the off chance a teacher may find it useful, please? I'm talking about educational software (in a primary setting), rather than juicy admin stuff for us Things like GCompris, the MS Learning Suite, etc. Thanks in advance!

Just a quick thanks to all suppliers for their impersonal, uncompressed tacky Christmas images in every email I've received since Monday

[sims] Problem with SIMS Autumn 2012 Update
MattHarwood replied to MattHarwood's topic in MIS Systems
Afraid not, I keep getting fobbed off when calling up and an email so far not replied to. Good idea on the file size - I have 131325859 bytes (125.242mb) - anyone else? Thanks vikpaw -
Hi all Trying to update to Autumn 2012 (7.148.33) and having a nightmare. The update downloads and SOLUS3 then says it cannot verify the package / invalid signature. I've tried to download and import manually, but it says the same. I'm waiting on Capita to give me a call back, but wanted to check if anyone else has been having problems with this please? Thanks

Couple of inches here in Luton, school open but late. Many a teacher not in yet. Funny how I could get here fine (earlier than usual) and dig out the snow for an hour and a half, yet they're the ones caught in a "nightmare".

I agree Voda and others have acted immorally, but that profit to the shareholders tends to work out as the man on the street - pension funds, savings accounts etc.

I always fresh install - keeping my home partition. Not worth the hassle!
