New 2008 R2 Print Server

Hi,

 

Just in the middle of migrating over to Windows 2008 R2 servers.

 

I am creating clean installs for the new servers and I'm in the process of creating a new print server.

 

I will need to configure it so that it will work with Windows XP (x86) and Windows 7 (x86 & x64).

 

For the following printers:

 

HP LJ1200

HP LJ1300

HP LJ1320

HP LJ2015

HP LJ2055

HP LJ4015

 

I was going to use HP Universal Printer Driver PCL6, but I am unclear what (if any) drivers should be used for the following printers:

 

HP OfficeJet 6000

HP OfficeJet Pro K5400

HP OfficeJet Pro K8600

Business InkJet 1200dtn

Business Inkjet 1100dtn

 

 

Any feedback/gotchas would be appreciated.

If you search HP's website, you should be able to download the correct driver they recommend.

 

On 2008 R2, you must add the x64 driver first, then the x86 driver second through Print Management > Print Servers > SERVERNAME > Drivers

 

The x64 and x86 drivers must be the same language - PCL5 or PCL6 and the same version number.

I had to use the 2003/XP drivers to allow XP clients print through a 2008r2 server for this printer.

I can confirm no quota management on printing is possible without some third party tool/software.

 

Most newer photocopiers do have built in print management, but if you're using printers then a software solution would be required.

Take a look at this they offer a free version but the paid for version is much cheaper than some of the others that are around.
