svp06 Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 We are looking at installing wireless accross our site and I am interested in talking to Surrey or South East schools that have done this and can give me any tips or pointers. Also any schools who are using mobile devices, of any kind who might share their experiences. Finally anyone using Cloud Technologies, what are you using and how? Is anyone doing anything exciting more than just email and online versions of existing software? Thanks Suzie
edutech4schools Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Just about to leave so will need to post back later. We are using Google apps for ed as our main website and vle system. We have wireless. It depends on the size of school but I would recommend on paying for a decent system, don't just get home style systems. I look after a few primary schools. Will update later.
cpjitservices Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Meru, Ruckus, Arubs for wireless...... Have a look at Moodle for course management - it's free.
cromertech Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 For a cheaper solution I would recommend Unifi. Have it site wide here and it seems just as good as the expensive systems. Speak to @m25man or more details 2

witch Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 There are some threads on this issue you might have a look through. I have Ruckus in one school, Meru in the other, used with netbooks. Works well
EduTech Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 I personally recommend Ruckus for Education Establishments, again it is cheap and is very good with dealing with the building issues some of the older (and new) schools have to deal with. I have deployed it accross schools i have worked at and businesses and never had any issues. Speak with @Aggy on the forums who works for a company called Net-CTRL who will be able to answer any questions you have. Many users on here use Ruckus, and so many threads around the product are around on here. Other products as mentioned above do work also, but as most things some work better in environments than others so it is good to get a few demo units from different vendors are try it out for yourself. jdobson78 Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Another plus for unifi here. its cheap for a reason I found, single radio and no features, but if your requirements are basic then would be a good fit
