Ghosting laptops

Just finished creating an image for the laptops we have.

 

Anyone got any tips on if I should just do a straight image or shall I sysprep & use unattend function?

Straight image? always a bad idea.

 

Always sysprep with some details in it to at least get it to do most of the stuff on it's own.

To each their own. I do not like sysprep as I find it requires too many unnecessary steps. All my images are sealed with using newsid. It is so much faster.

Must admit this is my approach too... NewSID works a treat and avoids all the problems with sysprep.

We use sysprep... the only time we haven't used it was when creating an image for PCs we were giving away to staff. It was unnecessary in that case. Never used newsid before.

If you're using the Ghost Solution Suite, you can use the console to invoke Ghostwalker which will do similar. That's what I used to do.

What problems with sysprep?

 

I know newsid is faster (because all it does is change the SID) but sysprep makes it easier to cope with diverse hardware (and this slows it down a bit because of the mini-setup)

Also I found the new version of sysprep correctly deals with WSUS ids.
