Well, apparently, since Oracle brought them out, they have been making a bit of a hash actually selling them according to this article in The Register: Analysts see no Oracle hardware-biz recovery on horizon ? Channel Register

Given how members who had them used to rave about Sun kit it seems like it was almost impossible not to be able to sell them they had such a good reputation.

I think it was also helped by the deals they offered education, I seem to remember most of they're servers were on a BOGOF. The one I wanted didn't qualify for educational pricing and was much more expensive then the equivalent HP.

Yup, the hardware was good but to be perfectly honest the Dell and HP hardware was also just as good. The real reason I loved them was their edu pricing was amazing. BOGOF on servers and all addons that you purchased was just too hard to refuse and meant they were normally cheapest!

Im not sure how Oracle are still in business. In Australia i had many meeting with representatives from Oracle and shocking it not the word!

They never bothered to have remotely compeditive pricing in NZ even when owned by Sun and were almost double the cost of hp in some cases. From my prospective their true natures are usually revealed by how they treat smaller markets.

The support from Oracle is also dire tbh, my contracts for my SANs ran out in the summer, its taken until February this year to renew them! Yes they sent them to the wrong place, wrong email, a non-existant postal address and a non UK fax number, we have had enough but at least we have managed to pay for them at last, just hope the next renewal doesn't take quite as long to sort! Oh and pricing is very much stuff education now, 24x7 support is great but not what I budget for
