Had a demo and they want 5k and £500 a year to host and support the system.

Now i am not incarge of the website now but see this as way to much . We have Mambo now which does most things however INCO system looked eaiser for non it users to use and therefore impressed the powers that be.

We are however soon to have kaleidos as our VLE ( i know but every in our borough will get it due to RM and BSF).

I am not to familier with Kaleidos but i will be implementing it and supporting it . Does anyone know if i can host the website within Kaleidos?

we're just waiting for our smt to sign off then we're good to go. With the ease of updating dda importance we think the price is nothing compared to man hours and the rubbish press if we get a complaint for not being compliant.

£5,000 for a website? And £500 every year? HA! Tell them to get lost. I'm surprised they're still in business charging that amount. Joomla isn't really that bad - neither are other good open-source content management systems such as Website Baker, CMS Made Simple and Plone.

But no, Kaleidos doesn't do websites as far as I know.

Hate to say it but that's a pretty high cost..

That said you need to consider the cost and/or benefit (ie: keeping you gainfully employed) if you handle it another way (in-house?)... Doing something yourselves is a lot of work though and you can never underestimate a good user interface so take that lot into account.

I'd also find out whether that £500 a year includes upgrades, etc... and what sort of usage quota (bandwidth, diskspace, etc..) that includes... If you're not careful there could be all sorts of additional charges that you sign up to at the same time.

Oh and lastly what sort of contention is involved, ie: are you sharing the server with other schools, how many, implications for loading time, timeouts, etc... ?

If nothing else I'd want access to a demo site for a month (minimum) to really hammer the system to see what it's failings (if any) are..

Without wishing to insult here but could you give a little more info about yourself "boosting"... I did a quick scan of your posts and it seems you're awfully keen on Inco.. and not really posting about a lot else... so the old antenna are twitching a little... :?

Hi, just noticed the discussion about INCO and the doubts expressed about just how genuine the positive comments are. I thought it was a lot when I started looking for a system to lighten the load, but you get what you pay for. I must point out that systems as flexible as this one can cost a lot, we had a quote for 8k. I also had cheaper quotes but when I looked at what I was getting, it wasn't comparable. I think people often underestimate how much time and effort it is to maintain an up to date web site. If you want static sites then fine, you don't need this sort of content management system, but if you pln to keep it up to date it is a different story. My school has a website created by and hosted by INCO. The level of service has been excellent, the reduced workload for me and my technicians well worth the fee. The flexibility when creating the site and the features was well worth te cost. I have no axe to grind here, I am a genuine customer who is happy with the quality of the product and support and believe the money was well spent.

lazypole: You must be mad to spend £8k on a school website with a company like that. That is, if you are a school and not a representative of INCO pretending to be.

I don't want to sound sceptical here but the simple fact is that there are a number of companies who've shown themselves more than willing to create shill accounts to big-up their products as "satisfied customers".

With the greatest of respect to yourself I'd have more faith in an established edugeek member feeding back on something rather than a first time poster or someone who is discussing the same product and nothing else. I'm sure you understand.

Is contink always this arrogant about people who dare to join this forum, . I am not impressed by this response to my genuine comments.

I am also annoyed by the comments posted by Webman.

read my post it says I was aksed for 8k by another supplier.

Is this really a forum just for moaning about anything and everything.

AND NO I do not work for INCO.

ok people lets calm down a bit.

Unfortunately had lot of suppliers doing some questionable things and people are often they twitchy.

Lets not upset people if you think they are suppliers "posing" then just pm a staff member and we will investigate it.

As otherwise new members are going to get put off..

In that case you will be happy to post a link to your school website and PM me with a telephone number for your school then?

People dont mean to be rude but as you have only posted two comments both on this topic you can see how it seems. Unfortunatly there are dodgy suppliers who big up their products on here.

Too true, I actually joined to look through the stuff on thin client, we have been using this for years now and thought we might find useful information or provide help for others. I simply browsed and found this topic and thought I would post my views, sadly I am now unlikely to participate any more.

Ok here goes lazy-pole works for a school in an RBC email and IP support that.

Well that's great... but why the defensive attitude..

I think people need to apologise here

I'd be happy to apologise if I didn't have a point.

The simple fact is that some businesses can and will create accounts to up their product and the profile fit. I was very careful to word my post to allow for the fact that lazypole was genuine but all I get is name calling.

So, I'll apologise for unintended insult but it was unintended and I thought covered.

Edit: Actually, thinking this through you've got to take into account the context..

We have "boosting" to start with that set the antenna off and then "lazypole" straight after with bad timing. I wouldn't have jumped quite so quick had it not been for the other post and my pride is getting in the way now... so ok.. I offer an unreserved apology..

We know that there are a number of suppliers doing this at the moment ... can we ask that people presume that it is legit or report it to a Mod / Admin and let us deal with it.

It is frustrating having to deal with a number of the suppliers and it tends to be the small ones that cause the most problems.

Can members please assume that people joining are legit ... if they turn out not to be we will be very public in telling people the lengths that the troublesome companies are going and if people then decide to avoid them like the plague they would only have themselves to blame.

Please remember that some editting / removal of posts may not happen until people have free time in the evenings.

If new posters come on and make remarks that really really don't match up with most of our experiences and when challenged just get upset then ....

or

Heat - Kitchen - Leave.
