sultan966 Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 In the past I have used WDS for large deployments of laptops. I recently have moved to SCCM 2007 on a Windos 2003 server. I have also tried on Windows 2008 server. Both works. I have tried SCCM on Domain controller and on member server. All works. The deployment is successful now. I am now deploying large number of laptops again. I just need to PXE boot and the rest is done without any intervention. Joining OU is automatic, laptop naming is automatic, driver integration is very easy. Forefront End Point Protection is integrated in the SCCM console and easy to deploy. Windows updates are easy to deploy as well. I am not an expert on this product. I did face problems at every step. But step by step I have overcome all problems and now I have a functioning SCCM. I did a bit everyday. Watching youtube videos, windows-noob website and this site has helped me on the way. If anybody is planning to deploy SCCM 2007 then you can ask me questions. I do not know all answers. But will try to help. 2

Rozzer Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 If you want to make good use of SCCM in a school environment you need to spend a lot of time learning bit by bit. You could in fact wipe an entire network if used incorrectly. But it works great when it works well 1

Thanks no, sounds like you have your BITS set to like 20kbps, which means things will take a long time.... Go to "Computer Client Agent", under Client Agents, under Site Settings, click the BITS tab and see if throttle is ticked at the bottom and if it is increase the transfer speed or tell it not to throttle 1

Its not officially released yet... is it? by the way it maybe down to the refresh of when it does a machine retrieval policy. I set mine to 15 minutes instead of the basic 60 minutes.

edie209 Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 I am setting up SCCM here and I have got to the point where the TS is called Task Sequence Wizard Select Task Sequence but at the moment this is where my install fails with a message about a missing package. Time to create a new task sequence.

Make the adverts mandatory and change the machine policy retrieval cycle to say 15 mins and every online machine should install within 15 mins of assignment. Offline machines will pick up when booted.

The re-run advertisement option works which I use alot. I've never used the options it mentions on that page.
sparkeh Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Yep right click tools are a must. Also handy is 'client control centre' which shows you all manner of info about a machine, really good for troubleshooting.
