Connecting to IWB

I would like a visually impaired pupil to be able to see the IWB from any seat in the room. Is there a way to connect to the IWB wirelessly so that he can see what is being projected onto the board?

I have tried VNC but the network manager/techie will not use it because they say it gives control of the teacher's laptop to the pupil.

The school uses promethean but I would also like to use this syetm in smartboard schools, possibly with iPads as well as a laptop for the pupil.

Any thoughts?

a school i had similar issue at, had a dedicated screen for them to see in the class.

You can use VNC in just viewer mode?

You could use a product such as Impero to broadcast whatever is on the teachers display to the pupils computer.

Thanks Boon. We also use repeater screens in primary schools but that no longer works when the pupils move around the school at KS3 and 4. We really need a mobile solution.

Pooley, why do school techies dislike VNC so much? I can't get one techie in Dorset to try it.

I would imagine that they are concerned about the security of it, but you can set it so it can only be used to view what is on another pc not interact with it, also it can be set so that a prompt window comes up before connection so the vnc

"viewer" cannot view anything without consent.

 

Maybe the tech's haven't examined all the options?

Some companies are providing tablets that can be connected with the IWB, so that each student can interact through his/her personal tablet and it can be shared with the whole class through IWB. A great piece of work that crates an interactive learning environment in the class
