Hi guys,

Anyone use these projectors? I watched them in demo at a seminar a few weeks back and was v impressed! They are a bit steep in price but for network connectivity, no bulbs or filters and a five year warranty I think its nailed on. One thing I cannot find is what distance these projectors work from? My understand is that because they are LED projectors they are not "short throw" as this only applies to projectors with bulbs.

Let me know!

I assume you mean the Casio XJ-A145?

The XJ-A series according to some resellers have been replaced by the XJ-M series that are bigger and have a lower zoom range, but you can still get hold of both series.

We have approx 30 Casio XJ-A140 projectors, installed approx 18 months ago and we are very happy with them, nice and bright and fantastic zoom range (x2), very versatile.

In that time we have had 2 faults, 1 where the projector would not switch on, and the other with dead pixels.

The warranty (options) are good with a choice of:

- replacement (refurb projector)

- advanced loan replacement (whilst projector is repair)

- or collect/repair/return option

with all 3 options the courier costs to/from Casio are pre-paid for.

Short throw is a problem... But otherwise there's another Casio LED convert here.

They are great! NO FILTERS! :thumb:

Price wise they work out... The 5 year educational guarantee makes up for the cost of bulb replacement over 5 years on a conventional projector.

Yep, big convert to the Casios here, will have half our rooms with them once we've had some old projectors replaced over Easter. No bulbs, no filters, bliss :D

Slowly rolling them out here as and when cash is available, absolutely marvellous things. Bright, sharp, clear, flexible for us (zoom range, even the 1.5x on the M series is good), flexible for teachers (freeze, blank etc.) and genuinely are install-and-forget.

There are short throw models available but sadly no ultra short-throw (i.e. mount above the board). Only a matter of time though I expect.

The throw on the projectors doesnt have anything to do with the LED light source it is dependant on the lens and the zoom. The A series casios have a massive throw range on them which covers virtually any older standard throw projector. This makes them perfect for replacing projectors that are already in situ without having to move the ceiling mount (you may need to change the mount and convert the iec connection, neither of which are particularly expensive). Casio do make a short throw version the ST145 which uses a fish eye lens to get a shorter throw, they are rather heavy though at 7.5kg. I do know that Casio have plans to release an ultra short throw version later this year, will update if i hear anything further.

The snag with replacing Sanyo projectors with Casio is that the lens is on the opposite side of the projector.

This means you often need to move the whiteboard as there is a limit to how far you can move the projector on the mount without unbalancing it. With good luck, you can just slide the board to the extreme position on its mount.

With ultra short throw projectors mounted on an arm, you do not have this option.

It hasn't stopped us changing all the longer throw projectors though :)

Another positive report from me, have been swapping out as our Sanyo projectors die, the staff love them as they are very bright even when ran on eco mode @2000 ansi lumins.

They also love the fact that you can turn them off and back on again straight away without having to wait for the unit to cool down like you do with the bulb type.

Excellent :)

Just rember NO Filters done NOT mean you dont have to have them cleaned!!!!

They have to be serviced just like any other projector and they clog and overheat just the same.

I have seen a lot of these now for service and my thoughts are well known.

What did you do about the different lens position Bossman?
