I'm going to have to add to these "dodgy projector" posts I'm afraid.

We have an Hitachi CP-X275 projector which is acting up. If you switch it on, nothing is shown from the lamp at all, no light is produced. The power indicator flashes green for about 60 seconds then starts flashing red and the lamp indictator is static red.

We have replaced the lamp twice now, but neither new lamp made any difference. I have cleaned it out as much as possible with a vacuum, but again, this made no difference.

The manual says that light sequence means:

"There is a possibility that the interior portion has become heated. Turn the power OFF and waitapproximately 20 minutes. After the main unit has cooled down, please confirm whether or notthere is blockage of the air passage aperture, whether or not the filter is dirty, and/or whether ornot the peripheral temperature exceeds 35°C, etc. After performing any needed maintenance, turn the power ON again; if the same display is displayed, then please change the lamp".

The filter has been cleaned as well as the vents vacuumed out.

Any advice appreciated :D

Thanks

Perhaps the 'lamp ballast' is duff - this is something to do with power regulation to the lamp IIRC. This isn't a user serviceable part either so things are going to start getting pricey if it isn't under warranty.

OPf course you may have bought a faulty lamp to replace it with ;)

Its Lamp Ballast, we have about 25 of these and had it happen on a couple, both were repaired by Roche no problems asked under the 5 year warranty they had.

I have a Phillips BSure LC3132 projector (reasonably ancient) doing a similar thing after a new bulb, but it will power on eventually.

Powering on from cold, you sometimes get a red flashing lamp light and then a red flashing standby light. Poking the standby light will make it turn green after a few seconds and then pressing again will make it work again as normal.

The lamp counter was reset to zero when the new lamp was installed and the projector can't be switched off at the wall (just fused breaker), so it's unlikely the users are powering it down incorrectly.

Any ideas?

Edit: Extra googling reveals the flashy lamp light means the lamp isn't getting started correctly - I assume this means the ballast is on the way out?
