Flash Sites always asking for an Update or Flash to be installed

When a student browsers to some Flash websites (World Maths Day - http://www.worldmathsday.com - World Education Games for example) the site checks if the computer has the latest version of Flash and if not refuses to load. If an admin logs on and visits the site then there is no problem.

 

I can replicate the problem by removing the site (or all domains) from the Shockwave ActiveX Control. I have tried adding a registry key Current User>Software>Microsoft>Windows>EXT>STATS>{CLID}>IEXPLORE\DOMAINS\*

{CLID} is the version of Flash we are using.

 

But still not joy.

 

Does anyone know of a way to add which websites they would allow Flash to have full reign on. The sites are in my Trusted Zone.

Are you using a mandatory profile for pupils? And I presume you've deployed the latest Flash 11 to your network?

Hi Michael, we use roaming profiles at the school which work well for us. Yes we have deployed the latest version of Flash from Adobe's download site.

 

I've even printed of the Teachers and Students GPOs and gone through them line at a time and I can't see what would setting is making the difference.

 

Any help greatly appreciated.

Is there a different in web filtering policies between students and admins?

 

I've seen this a few times where an unblocked website hosts its content on a blocked web server.

Staff can invoke an 'unfiltered' policy for themselves but they haven't had to. All traffic goes through the same proxy server.

Make a test student account into a staff member and see if there's any difference.

 

I have a hunch that you may have flash installed incorrectly. It should have a registry entry in HKLM\Software\Macromedia\FlashPlayer.

A few years ago we had this issue at a primary school we supported. Flash was fine for staff and admins but would say it needed updating for students. We had to give students full control on some of the registry keys in the mandatory profile (But I can't remember which ones now) we used regmon to find this out.
