Afternoon all,

Just set up a WAP with hidden SSID in our office, and I am trying to connect my HTC android using Opera Mini. I am struggling to find somewhere to enter my proxy settings???

Can anybody help please?

Support for configuring a proxy was only added in fairly recent versions of Android. IIRC stock ROMs started supporting it around the time of Gingerbread (2.3?) for phones and Honeycomb (3.x) for fondleslabs.

You can use transparent proxying for other versions of Android however.

Also, if you're using Opera turbo that will make horrible socket connects that aren't HTTP at all. A Smoothie will block these connections like a proxy (as they are!)

Oh, I forgot the 'how' bit:

Providing you have the correct version of Android and you're connected to your hidden-SSID network, it's under Settings > Wireless & Networks > Wi-fi Settings. You need to hit the 'Menu' hard key to reach 'Advanced' -- it's in there somewhere.

As @nile_c suggested, Opera Mini Web browser by default uses its own socket connections (requests are to/from Opera's servers etc).

This may well be blocked by your firewall (SmoothWall???) as it does not follow standard port 80 etc connection.

You can check/change by clicking Opera Button -> Settings -> Advanced > Protocol and changing from [socket/HTTP] to [HTTP]

Try the standard stock browser first to at the least to check connectivity.
