Large touchscreen monitors

Hi

 

Has anyone used large (46-65" monitors) instead of a projector and smartboard in a classroom? We have a studio where the ceiling is too high and we don't want a projector coming down on a long pole. We have looked at parabolic projectors but we haven't got the room to fit one in with a smart board.

 

We want an interactive solution so was looking at large touch screen monitors as a possibility but wanted to know others opinions if they have used them.

Have you looked at any Ultra Short throw Models such as the Hitachi? it is mounted to the wall on a boom arm. We have a few and they are pretty reliable.

Or the Epson Interactive projector like shown here I have one of these and the teacher loves it.

Hi Glennda, thats what we originally wanted but there is a window above the only place it can go and two site visits have said it wouldn't fit or the interactive board would be about half a meter off the floor (too low).

Ah ok - worth a shot. At my last school they had a projector with a large lens mounted on the back wall which then was zoomed into the board. Not sure of make/model but that could also be worth looking at?

It might be worth looking at putting a smartboard and ultra-short throw projector on a height adjustable mount. Many designs of these attach to the wall directly behind the board and have a built-in projector mount. They also have an additional benefit in that they make the board accesible to wheelchair users and younger children too.

anchor 2 pieces of unistrut to the wall, vertically, the distance apart of the bracket for the projector, bolt the projector to the unistrut (so it can be in front of the window) and then bolt the bracket for the smart board to the unistrut, jobs a goodun.

Yes, we do the Clever LCDs. I went to visit one of my schools who bought 3 off me last month and they really are good. I'll upload some of the pics i took later so you can see

We installed a couple of the Epson boards over the Summer and I think they are very smart. The short throw projector is clear and the added bonus of not having to move existing whiteboards is very handy. Plus Epson will come into your school and give you a demo free of charge I believe.

The downside of interactive projectors is that if you lose the pen, you are 'up the creek without a paddle' so to speak and I don't think the pens are cheap to replace. You will get a demo of the CleverLCD free of charge too, just ask your AV dealer to organise it.
