How to test a samsung hard disk for errors?

Hi

 

I have a PC with a Samsung HDD model HD161G which seems to have problems.

 

I have googled samsung tools to check the disk but keep getting re-directed to the seagate site.

 

I downloaded and booted from :

SeaToolsDOS223ALL.ISO

 

but it tells me there are no compatible drives installed....

 

Anyone?

Have you tried Windows error checking with the surface scan option?

Can't boot to windows - it's stuck in a loop booting and also having troubles getting on to the WDS server to re-image....

You might need to change the hard drive mode in the BIOS to IDE for it to be recognised.

Seatools if for Seagate drives.

 

This bootdisk has all the manufacturer's tools.

I generally use UBCD4WIN for disk checking. If you don't have time to create such a thing, you could use Hiren's Boot CD which now appears to be legit and has some Samsung tools. Note to mods: I had a quick scan, and none of the obvious warez that used to be on the disk leapt out at me - please edit post to delete if it's still a "naughty" tool.

 

You could also take a look in the BIOS options - may be something there, or slave/use a caddy to check the disk on another machine.

+1 for Hiren's Boot CD. Its got tools for the majority of drives plus a couple of universal disk checking tools. As far as I'm aware, on the latest versions all the tools on it are clean, not like it used to be.

HIRENS did the trick - via a bootable USB stick...it had the free samsung utility on there...

 

Disk is crammed with unreadable sectors....
