[android] Per-SSID Proxy Settings & Exclusions. Unrooted, non-transparent auth

I'd like to know how I can get Android devices to apply proxy details (including cached auth and exclusions list) on a per-SSID basis.

 

And pass those settings onto various applications.

 

Google and a look around here tells me I want to be on 3.1 at least.

Is it still a case of "for it to reliably let all apps access the Internet you need to be using transparent proxying?". Should I reach for the Sandwich or will I be disappointed?

Depends on your situation and network setup but there is a free proxy app called ProxyDroid:

It uses the built in IPTables for your android device, the only issue is that the device has to be rooted in order for the app to work.

For me this is android's biggest flaw as it has very basic proxy support and it usually only works for the GApps and nothing else.

 

EDIT: Just noticed you put unrooted in the title. Is there a reason for this? Without root access you will struggle to get any decent proxy support running. ICS also has this limitation.

 

The proxy support built into android allows you to specify authentication settings but like i said it only works for the browser and SOME of the Google Apps
