Bjoern Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Hello Edugeeks, i`m from germany and a bit sad that there is no such community as edugeek.net in germany. I can`t believe that there are no school administrators in germany that would like to share thoughts and problems with each other. So - Are there some edugeeks from germany here? If you want to get in contact directly you can email me at info [a-t] edugeek [d0t] de . Thanks!

featured_spectre Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I was born in Hannover, and lived there for the first few years of my life, and my mother is German...does that count?
Bjoern Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 does that count? Hehe, yeah, sure Are there still german words left?
featured_spectre Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I can have a conversation in German, but my written and reading skills are poor
vikpaw Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 It's good to see you here. Tell us more about your school and the IT you have. We'd all be interested to know more. I don't know how many Germans we have here, but i'm sure there are a lot of lurkers.
Bjoern Posted January 22, 2012 Author Posted January 22, 2012 I work for a school district with 5 vocational colleges/trade schools and about 15 special-needs schools. We are five people and administrate all 20 school locations - every school with its own infrastructure, servers etc. That means about 6000 workstations - mostly win xp + server 2003 - but we start to upgrade the first huge school to win7 soon. My job is mostly the server side - vSphere/ESXi, Exchange, AD - but with that few people i`ll help out on the first level front, too. Sometimes. @nephilim: if you need a german sparring partner let me know
Kitkatninja Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 ...I don't know how many Germans we have here, but i'm sure there are a lot of lurkers. Here's another one, but I'm wouldn't say I'm a lurker
Out_of_Sync Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I am not german speaking, but working at a german school
featured_spectre Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 It is all good...my German improves VASTLY when I am drunk I have to admit..or so I have been told by both natives and family!

Ephelyon Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 The German system sounds similar to the American mindset of "school districts", then. I'm a Dutch-speaker myself and have limited experience of professional German & Afrikaans translation so I expect we could sort of understand one another... as @nephilim says, drunkenness might help there...
