  1. I work for a school district with 5 vocational colleges/trade schools and about 15 special-needs schools. We are five people and administrate all 20 school locations - every school with its own infrastructure, servers etc. That means about 6000 workstations - mostly win xp + server 2003 - but we start to upgrade the first huge school to win7 soon. My job is mostly the server side - vSphere/ESXi, Exchange, AD - but with that few people i`ll help out on the first level front, too. Sometimes. @nephilim: if you need a german sparring partner let me know
  2. Hehe, yeah, sure Are there still german words left?
  3. A deactivated NIC would not fetch a new ip from dhcp, i guess. The dhcp would register the ip only on a new assignment. But you could try to give the deactivated nic a fixed ip address beforce you deactivate it again...
  4. You mean you can edit shortcuts on a mandatory roaming profile that is on a share where only the admin-users/system have write access (NTFS + Share-Security?) ? So you really mean you can logon as a local admin on pc1, change a shortcut, logoff,0 move to pc2, logon as the same user and then the shortcut is changed there, too? Maybe you have a problem with profile caching?
  5. Activate the 2nd NIC, go to the Settings of that NIC -> Properties of TCP/IP -> Advanced -> DNS -> "Register adress of this connection in dns" [i use a german version, so maybe its translated wrong...] Then deactivate the NIC again. Working?
  6. Hello Edugeeks, i`m from germany and a bit sad that there is no such community as edugeek.net in germany. I can`t believe that there are no school administrators in germany that would like to share thoughts and problems with each other. So - Are there some edugeeks from germany here? If you want to get in contact directly you can email me at info [a-t] edugeek [d0t] de . Thanks!
  7. AD over wireless is always a pain but it works if you use the windows wireless connection and not a bad written driver tool that starts AFTER a user logs on. I think intel wireless manager runs as a daemon, so that might work, too.
  8. Another method is to use Dropbox + dropboxautomator.wappwolf.com - you can define folders in your dropbox where dropboxautomator will scale, rotate all pictures etc. in a way you define it. Works really fine over here plus you can upload the pictures to everywhere (facebook etc.) if you want to.
  9. Hey Edugeeks, i`m a long time lazy reader of this forum, but today i finally created an account. I`m a system- and networkadministrator for a school district in germany. With four people we administrate some business colleges and some special-needs schools. In numbers these schools have about 6000 workstations, many many dsl/cable lines, routers, servers and so on. My expertise is virtualisation (vSphere mostly), routing (bsd walls - isa - tmg) and exchange and other emails services. But i`ll do troubleshooting and 1st level on some days, too. I started a blog/notepad (in german language) about my daily life as a school administrator in december 2011 under edugeek.de . Maybe i`ll find some german colleagues here that are willing to blog with me or share thoughts with me....
