I'm on it, been open on the new F2P system for about a week if you had a previous sub. They've made some improvements though it isn't perfect, just enough to show Perfect World are polishing it up a bit.

I'm glad to see STO has finally fallen into the free category as it fits better there. Before it was a free quality game with a subscription and an additional F2P revenue model on top!

Tyana@Arsonwulf if you want to add me.

OK it's been about six or seven months since Perfect World made the transition and this is turning into a playable game. I suggest trying the KDF faction once you unlock it at lvl25 as they have had some improvements and show a very dark and piratical side of the Star Trek universe; like duty officers committing ritual suicide, backstabbing various Federation captains and cannibalistic tribbles! Some of the trashed and seedy stations you venture into also feel right as a rough and ready KDF captain instead of a pristine doo-gooder Starfleet officer. ;)

My new main is Ferhasen@arsonwulf and I'll post some pictures later from my Steam library.

Hmm... I may try this out again at some point. I paid for 2 years of subscription for it and barely paid for some reason. It wasn't a bad game either.

For those who want to get one....

Star Trek Online Cannibal Tribble Battery Farm Guide.

1) Acquire a handful of various, cheap tribbles. They drop like crisp wrappers in a school playground and if you leave one in a bag with some food, they will eat the food and reproduce.

2) Go to your bridge on your ship and take the turbolift down to the crew deck. Find the canteen room and talk to your chef. He will give you a Duty Officer mission called Baked Tribble.

3) Assign a duty officer with the Chef attribute to the mission and ensure you have a tribble of the correct species in your bag (the NPC you talk to is lazy and doesn't actually cook anything!). The mission will tell you which species to use. I asked my fleet to help get my hands on a chef officer.

4) Start the Duty Officer mission and wait for it to complete. If it is successful, you will get a stack of 3 baked tribbles in your bag.

5) Split the 3 baked tribble items so they are occupying one square each (an inventory square can be accessed by only one tribble each hourly feeding turn so if the food is stacked, only one tribble would eat it. Spreading the food over three squares mean three tribbles can eat in a turn).

6) Tribbles eat automatically on an hourly basis and three of the tribbles in your bag will become cannibals in the next feeding turn. Now the fun begins. Keep three cheap tribbles in the bag alongside the cannibals and have one stack of food for each cheap tribble. Field Rations from the Replicator will suffice, the cheaper the better.

7) Check your bag after the next turn to find the cannibals have eaten three of the cheap tribbles and you have three Tribble Carcasses. The three cheap tribbles also eat the food during the turn and consume a food item each to make new tribbles before dying, leaving you with three more cheap tribbles in their place to balance the population. These three young tribbles then breed three more tribbles next turn before being eaten.

So long as the number of cannibals is equal to the number of livestock tribbles who in turn are equal to the number of food stacks in the bag then the system should automatically generate corpses every hour. For added fun, if you equip and pet a cannibal it will shriek at you then bite your now rather confused looking character.

I'm not sure if this works Federation side given their ethics but KDF don't care and give you dilithium in exchange for dead tribbles. It is also more fun then throwing them out the airlock. ;) I also have no idea if cannibal tribbles will eat each other...

Update: There has been a major UI overhaul and the release of a new Romulan faction and KDF Level 1 content. I think that ex-Paragon Studios staff have made their mark on the game as it has had significant improvement. Still holes (Exploration is still a pointless task) but I feel the game has improved for the better.

Currently mucking around on a Starfleet character with a few bouts on my KDF pirate.

Sunny, if you have nothing constructive to say, say nothing please.

As for the game, I havent touched it in about a year, I flit between games so often, but I am due to come back to this one soon. Will add some people and we can go on some missions making my char level up nicely, then go looking for some fights! :D

Downloaded the update last night ready for a crack on it tonight. It's been a while since I played, my main was a Tactical Star Fleet Captain and went down the Escort class which I found to be seriously devastating in battle if played right. Current ship is actually Defiant class. Think though I'll need to roll a new alt to get back to grips with it as I can imagine it's changed a fair amount.

Think my in-game name is Rawns (Maybe Rawnz?) so add me if you like.

The fed fleet I am in has been helping me find the ropes again. Have you got one yet Rawns? We did Fleet action last night and the 20-man space action is insane with all the beam-boats.

I hit Commander 30 last night and upgraded to a Celestial class Exploration Cruiser. Lovely looking ship and very hard to kill unless you happen to be a Heavy Plasma Torp cheating Romulan Battleship. :(

No I've not, but a couple of other mates who have got back into it, so the plan is to create a new one tonight. Shame there are not more Online Trekies to form an EduGeek Fleet! ;)

My Romulan is now up to level 27. My mate who was away on weekend is up to that rank too so I stopped levelling it on Sat morning and resumed my Federation main that I've not played in ages. Took me a while to get back to it but I'm back up to speed now and hit 40 last night. I'm now cruising in Prometheus Class Advanced Escort:

Cant remember what engine I have installed on it but nothing seems to match it for combat speed and manoeuvrability. :)

We can still team up for fleet credit stuff provided all have a fleet (even if they are different). Maybe we can try tonight? :)

I'll post a picture of my Exploration Cruiser later. This is the current build that is working OK for me but could use some better armour as I have no Plasma resist and it's literally killing me:

Mixed Phaser/Plasma Beam Arrays

Photon Torpedos fore/aft

TACTICAL:

Beam Overpower

Tactical Team

ENGINEERING:

Emergency Power to Weapons

Emergency Power to Shields

Emergency Power to Aux Power

Aux Power to Structural Integrity Field (combines well with above plus Engineering Team for a big hull heal)

Engineering Team

Vent Warp Plasma

SCIENCE

Science Team

Shield Drain Beam

I heard that rotating Emergency Power to Weapons and Shields is the way to go, along with one of each type of Team. Then I use structural and engineering team as needed to restore lost hull points (easy with a crew complement of 1000). :)

:jaw: Why the hell isn't this in my life. Signing up!

You won't regret it! Maybe we do have the makings of an EduGeek fleet! EduFleet! :)

Also, unlike most other Free to Play games, not spending a penny does not impact the game itself. :D

Is it fairly easy to get into the game? I.E. getting resources, a ship etc. - I find with previous f2p games that although it's free, it's virtually nigh on impossible to get anywhere without having to 'unlock XYZ' or 'PAY NOW AND GET ACCESS TO THIS' jargon.

Not the case with STO which is why I love it so much. Paying does not mean you can "unlock" things quicker. Your guaranteed a ship every 10 levels with between 1-3 free choices of craft. Some ships can even be rewards from quests (I've recently just got a USS Enterprise-C type ambassador class starship from a quest!), some others are rare loot drops. There are of course a selection of other ships that you can pay for with maybe an additional perk or two but not buying a better ship does not leave you with an unfair disadvantage.

The 'free' aspect basically applies limitations (eg, limited number of inventory slots, ship slots, uniform slots etc), limited choice of ship designs and skins etc. You can pay/subscribe for additional slots but depends on how fussed you are.

You can also buy ZEN via Steam which is the premium currency. This can then be turned into Dilithium which is acquired in-game or vice versa. That means it is possible to acquire the cash store items through in-game effort by converting Dilithium to ZEN.

When it was P2P? (sure it was), i did the easy thing. Money > Zen > Level up boosts > Money > Zen > Ship > Money > Zen > Upgrades > Enemy QQ. lol

Of course, you need an abundance of cash you can blow ;)
