startup screen before the log on screen

Interesting one for you.

 

We have some laptops donated to us, when you turn them on you get the old acceptable use policy which you have to agree to before you get the screen that you choose which user you want to log on as. ( these are stand alone xp laptops ) is there a way of getting rid of the AUP and just going to the log in screen?

you might find it is enabled by the local group policy under computer configuration>windows settings> security settings>local policies>security options>interactive logon: message text for users attempting to log on. if you don't know how to run the group policy editor instructions are here How To Use the Group Policy Editor to Manage Local Computer Policy in Windows XP

Its also possible to change the settings in registry:

Local Machine>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Policies>System

Theres nothing in that setting

Now what happens is computer turns on get the rubbish wall paper that used to be displayed when the legalnotice text was displayed for about 3 seconds then the log in screen appears?

 

Anyway of getting rid of that wallpaper for the 3 seconds?

I have seen the wallpaper thing before, I am sure it was an old default profile. Your best bet is to delete and renew the default profile (even delete all profiles and start afresh).
