JBoyd Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Can someone answer a question about this product please? I understand what it does and how it does it but every time I mention it to our IT supplier they tell me that for anyone outside AD to access SLG through our VLE will require an Internet Connector licence - these cost around £10K for our site. Now I know Capita aren't averse to making a bit more money but I cannot believe they would sell a product that no-one can use without paying extra to do so?
creese Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I have vague memories of the long discussion around this subject a couple of years ago. Your best bet is have a word with Capita, they were involved and should have all the answers. From memory 10K is not what you'll have to pay.
bandgeekmafia78 Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Its true that external connectors cost a fortune. Fortunately we didn't have to pay this fee per se, as we have our SIMS Learning Gateway hosted by the Local Council so we only have to pay £1500 per year for support and licencing. Might be worth checking if your local council does something similar...?
teejay Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Yes, you do need them and no they're not included in the price from Capita! What you have been quoted is expensive though, I'm sure you can get them a lot cheaper, have a look at an EES agreement as I'm sure you can get them through that. Alternatively, look at the alternatives to SLG from people like Bromcom and TASC Software, both of which are very impressive products and don't require Sharepoint. 1
Sylv3r Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Yes, I believe you will need to purchase the Microsoft Connector licence for any public facing sharepoint website with logins via an AD account. Not sure it should be as high as £10k mind.
glennda Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 We are currently looking at SLG alternatives, Currently winning is Webanywhere's moodle block for parental reporting.
rpwillis Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Microsoft gives free external connector licenses for parents and other 'connected' users.
